But Mif might allow me to post hers here.  I'm happy to ask~ Sunny

Just popping in to say hi.

I haven't been playing much, though I did start Day of the Dead... what a hilarious game. So quirky and fun. Though I've only played just a little bit, I'm liking it so far!

I hope you guys are all having a nice weekend!

Nice to see you, Esme!  It was a quiet weekend, both here and at home.  I did finish Dark Alleys: Penumbra Motel, and was... well... This emoticon sums up my feelings about the game pretty well - dirtywords

By the way, I did update the How to Take a Screenshot thread with Mif's wonderfully-easy-to-follow instructions.  Many thanks to Mif! Offering

Was it the bonus content that caused the dirtywords ? I know that is what did it for me. I think I had one of my most EPIC rants after that game. I think I was especially annoyed because I had really really liked the main game and the different sort of vibe from ERS. Then it went batshit crazy in the bonus section and I was so irritated that I just flipped out.

Or was it something else that set you off in Penumbra Hotel???

Oh, man, did I rant epically after that one. I'm still ticked off at it! LOL

lol~  No, I'm ticked at the main game... I decided not to upgrade to the CE, 'cause I'm just too irritated by the sheer stupidity of some (or most!) of the tasks.  The link in my post above is to my review -- it's a novel, but I had a LOT to say about this game!  So tell me (spoiler tags are good!) about the bonus content!  I'm all "ears"!

LOL Okay... it's been a year since I played it, but I'm STILL annoyed with it, if that tells you anything!

LOL @ Penumbra Hotel. I own it, based on the demo which I thought was surprisingly good for ERS <snark> but then I proceeded to read so many negative reviews that I didn't go on to play the rest of the game.

Gotta finish it one of these days. And judging by Esme's rant I'm so glad I'm too cheap to buy CEs. Belly laugh

I need a REALLY good game right about now.  What do you recommend, Fear For Sale: McInroy Manor or House of 1000 Doors: Family Secrets?

I was meandering around on GOG today, and came across a "GOG mix" called "Best Story."  Both games in it were from the Alan Wake series.  I've heard of it before, but never really paid much attention.  Today I decided to take a look at the trailer:

It looks really scary!  And good!  Has anyone tried these games? (Thinking that I should start some topics... Hmm...)

Alan Wake is a horror adventure-shooter. There's a lot of shooting. Even though it's relatively slow, it's not that easy because the game likes to take resources from you, so you are never powerful enough.
The story... Well, I thought it had King vibe and my friend, who was the one actually playing it, was pretty mad that it was a "general King ripoff". It's a very good story as far as games go, but it's not going to amaze people who read books. I still think it's very worthwhile (friend is still fuming, she's a big King fan), just be warned that it's a shooter and it doesn't have auto aim. Aim assist doesn't help much. I guess it goes more for survival horror in that regard. Laugh

Edit: sorry about so much ranting about shooting, it's just that I a) can't shoot, b) hate losing equipment for whatever reason Laugh  Don't give me weapons if you don't want me to use them!

No problem at all... I'm right there with you on both counts!  More than anything, I want games with a good story.  I'm a huge fan of books, which you already knew if you noticed all of my posting in the Hollows thread... eight 450+ page books in just over 3 weeks.

OK, now I have to go and start a new thread... Laugh

Oh, by the way, before I forget.  I noticed that you had a couple of posts that had something like this in it - Laugh.  If you put a space after the emoticons, they'll show up right in your post Sunny

I'm using those emotes of my own will Laugh  I really like it for some reason.

I also want good stories in games, but... I will continue in the dedicated thread Laugh

I know this is the Dark and Eerie thread,  but....I tried the Flights of Doves, or something with Doves, demo....Hmm...

well,    I didn't last long.    My first fairy I named    esme    Snicker     then when I got to the second
fairy,  I named him Liam  (as in Neeson)  and quit.

I have to be in a certain mood to play that kind of game......and I just wasen't.

Did anyone else check it out?

There's no such thing as going off-topic in this thread. Elk grin  Y'all can talk about whateveeer you want here... and feel free to discuss Which Games Have the Best Story here, too.  I just made a separate thread so that those who don't follow this one can get in on the conversation Wink

Ah, you meant that the : laugh : thing showed up in some posts? For some bizarre reason spaces get cut out after posting. I usually try to edit them back in, but sometimes I miss some emotes. I have no idea why some of them vanish... Sticking double spaces usually brings them back though Laugh
