Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread 1
I am Playing Dark Angels: Masquerade Of Shadows. Really different. Feels totally like an adventure game, even though it has puzzles and an occasional progressive silhouette HOP.
I love that there is a vocals song track on it - eerie too! And creepy what I think are vampires (just called the dark ones so far). And it started out as something totally different.
Anyway, don't know if I love it or hate it!

Oooh, do you think BF will get that game? I don't mind a good vampire game.
I still have a bunch of games to play. I can't seem to find the time right now. Hopefully, after the holidays are over, I will.

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread 1
I feel like the game has turned me into a liar. Ten minutes after I wrote that, the HOPs started to appear So now I'd call it a good HOPA, with hard puzzles and a variety of HOPs, with less emphasis on adventure than it first looked like being. It is still nicely eerie and a strange blend of modern and archaic, but all put together well by a different story.
It reminds me a bit of Red Riding Hood Sisters.

Judging by your chosen avatar, RMom, you'll love it! A secret society of warrior women (aren't they always the best kind?)
PS. I'm enjoying it, but I'm gonna have to stop and finish it tomorrow. It's longer than I expected - I don't think I'm more than halfway through, and I've at it for hours (I think - time can run away from me at night).
Look for a formal review tomorrow

And to you djrum!! And all my newfound friends at GGG.
Just finished xmas day, which I spent playing A Christmas Carol. Very festive!
So from your Aussie reviewer:
Merry Christmas (or, if you prefer, Festive Day) to all, and "to all a good night".

dj- Have you played Greed: The Mad Scientist?
I really think you will like it, if you don't have it. Its a no frills game that really tests
the Gray Cells. The only thing I do not like is that the Hint tells you what you need to do,
rather than direct you to a spot.

Merry Christmas, everyone!
It's been an exhausting few days. I'm soooo tired, but at least it's a good kind of tired! I finished The Whispered World last night, and hope to get a review up in the next day or two.
Oh, oh! I'm so excited! My family coordinated my gifts, and I got every. single. book. on my wish list! That includes three that I hadn't read yet! Happy day!

Great to hear that genki! I love book presents too and try to organise the family to get the ones I want. This year, though, we all had old family photos scanned and sent each other what we each had, so we can all have a full collection - excellent!

Glad to hear Genki and JTF received such thoughtful gifts; those are the BEST kind!
Genki, inquiring minds want to know what you thought of Whispered World?
One of my new year's resolutions is to actually get through all my many unplayed BF and GOG games -- whew!

genki: Oh boy.... and .
JTF: My ex-BF sister did the same thing with their family pics, and after their mom's
funeral everyone got photos. It was nice and rather fun.
I just finished group play of Dracula: Resurrection and Dracula 2: The Last Sanctuary.
Now we are talking about playing Testament of Sherlock Holmes. A few of us own that but have never
played.
Its a great way to get games played, especially knowing your not alone if you get stuck.
Now, if I can just stop buying more games that are on sale.......

Oh what were the dracula ones like? I have them but am a little awed by the possibility of a serious adventure - do I have what it takes I wonder?
And what is group playing exactly?

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread 1
Luv, I really like those group plays.. in theory anyway.
Trouble is, I can't keep up. I know we don't have to, but there are always those super speedy players who post their finish times before I practically even start. Then I push myself to play faster -- and with those long adventures I like to really take my time and sometimes skip a whole bunch of days (sometimes a week!) between plays. The group often starts a new game every 2 weeks and that's just too rushed for me, what with RL and all*. So I've found I'm really happier and more relaxed as a solo adventurer. Oh and another thing is that I sometimes play them with DH which really drags out the playing since he doesn't have as much time as I do. (But I love him anyway!)
*Probably why I never join book clubs either. I like to read but what I want, and not on a timetable.

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread 1
I think you would probably enjoy them! The players are very friendly and encouraging and you're not really rushed and there's no deadline at all, despite what I wrote. Everyone's name is entered and you post along as you share your progress, keeping spoilers hidden of course.JustTheFacts wrote:And what is group playing exactly?
It's really a great way to get started on the long playing adventures if you're new to them. I highly recommend them, and judging by the rate at which you play and review games it's probably a very nice pace for you.
ETA - Just to clarify, even though a new group play may start every 2 weeks or so, the previous game thread never closes and players continue to post. Some people choose to participate every other game or so - again, there isn't a rush per se.

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread 1
R-Mom-- Like you said, its not a race. There are a couple I did not finish (like the Agon
series) cause I just couldn't, somehow that series just didn't inspire me.
I guess I like it cause when I first started playing Adventure games, I was totally clueless
and wandering around. For me, its been nice to know that there are others out there
who are just as clueless and we can help each other out.
Those who finish fast usually have the time (like me...this week I have off from work
so more time to play)
I don't do all the game plays. I don't do the Nancy Drew ones. The Dracula 2 one was
something that happened as we had just finished #1 and wanted to see how it ended.
If I find there is a game they are playing that I am not interested in, well, off I go
to play one of my own.
JTF If you scroll up, to the right side you will see under Friends and Affiliates
"Challengers". That's where we go for our group plays and other things.
If you visit the site, there is the Adventurous Fish forum. Most there are from BF.
Also, a Group Play forum. Check out the site.
The Dracula 1 & 2 are older games. We did get a kick out of the old style graphics-
heck, some of it was distracting. You have to be prepared to do a lot of exploring
and figuring things out. The one thing I found to be annoying was trying to find the
"hot spots". I also did have to consult AdventureGamerFan8 WT on YouTube a few
times.
But, I love Point and Click Adventure games.
Butterflyshrimp, hopefully she'll be back here soon, she's pointed me to some
good ones.

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread 1
They're at the Challengers Game Club site http://www.challengerscgc.com/forum and the adventure game play forum is called Adventurous Fish (ahhh we're all displaced fishies, aren't we? )
The game plays are led (more or less, it's quite a democratic setup) by popla and Cheshire Cat, two old friends from the BFG Dark & Eerie forum. I don't know if you can just join the Challengers site or you need to be invited... I'm a member there so can't recall. (Though I haven't posted there in ages because - sad but true - I suffer from overload and can't handle more than one forum at a time. )
They're an extremely friendly, diverse and chatty group from all over the world (for instance, popla's British and CC is Dutch). Really cool site and people... come to think of it, I really miss them!
ETA - I see we posted the info at the same time, hee!

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread 1
Thank you all my fellow fishie emigrees, dear oh dear it's like the great diaspora of Ireland during the famines!!
I will keep hold of the info and check it out when I'm feeling particularly adventurous.
You guys/gals do know, don't you, that most of what I am putting up here are reviews I'd already done? It's only the new releases that come straight here. I am feeling chuffed because I got in early with 3 reviews that debuted here before BFG release - would never have happened if genki didn't keep me up to date on releases elsewhere.
I am just finishing off my
500th
review for big fish - The Nutcracker (you'll get them all over here eventually too.
So, Party At My House!!!
