Thanks, Genki! I'll probably be gaming when the New Year comes in, as DH will be soundly asleep!

I like a good balance of HO scenes & puzzles in a HOPA. Maybe leaning towards the more hidden object scenes mark because I love them!
And everything has to be in the right "spot"...the "trigger" HO scenes or puzzles. I mean, I don't mind backtracking a few scenes to hunt for the triggers, but I don't like to backtrack 10+ scenes. It kinda gets on my nerves after awhile and I get bored.

I love to open a door/drawer/chest/car trunk, etc. and discover a HO scene.  Wub

    I'm such a dork!  Snicker

40 mins to midnight here, and I'm copying and pasting past reviews from big fish. Couldn't decide on what game to play, so I ended up here  Snicker

I love to open things and see a HOP as well. What is really fun is where no sparkles or anything to tell you it's there, a HOP is not activated until you do something to activate them.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR JustTheFacts!  HNY

So far I demo'd Golden Trails 2 and 3. Found GT2 boring (sorry) but I liked GT3... though I was unnerved at first by the creepy guy I had to shoot for hints. He first popped up while I was "talking" to the barkeep and my first thought was, "Man! If I pull out a gun and shoot someone right now the barkeep's throwing me out FOR SURE!"  OH! Belly laugh

    Off to demo GT1...

I've not played it yet - it's on the list... Whistle  Too many games? Never!

Just realised it turned midnight 15 minutes ago and I was too into my game to even notice.

Am playing Mystic Diary: Haunted Island. Another oldie.

Came across my review of this game and thought of you.

You may like it. It is basically a HOG, but a few puzzles in it as well. Very linear movement. Each room/chapter is isolated from all others.

It is not one of the world's best games, but it is not bad at all. Ignore my comments about it being for newbies.

As suspected, I did not last long with the first Golden Trails. Too "cowboy western" themed for my liking. As soon as I saw that fat ol' banker who'd outlived his purty young wife I knew it was Game Over for me, lol. Rolling Eyes

Still, GT3 held my attention and I like shooting that guy...who conveniently stands still long enough for me to nab him. Snicker

I bought Lord of Mirrors and played it when it first came out. Wasn't a super favorite but I liked it well enough. Though, owing to never writing any reviews I can't for the life of me remember what it was about.  Huh?

    lol

You and your brother (?) get tracked in spooky mansion by evil spirit in a mirror (I think), something like that anyway. To find your way out you must travel via mirror to each room where you find a ghost who wants you to do something for them.

Couple of HOPs, and few point and click bits, a puzzle or two, and then it's time to clear off another mirror to take you to the next room. Its very compartmentalised. But that's sort of its appeal

esme--  On my way home I was listening to NPR-I believe the segment was called Book-shelf.

They were interviewing your favorite author  Neil Gaiman.  booklover   It was very good and had me
laughing out loud.  Maybe you could find it on iTunes.

I could not find it on iTunes.   So I went to  (googled)  WAMC  (that is my local NPR station).  I found it under
The Book Show  (not shelf.. Embarrassed )   #1328 Neil Gaiman.

Sorry for the double post, but I had to pop in to laugh about something.

I'm playing the Christmas Carol game finally, and EG has made a lovely and entertaining game once again. This is not a criticism at all, but I just have to giggle about "game logic" a bit.

    Why, oh why, is the
    spoiler:

It made me giggle more than it probably should, but hey, any laugh is a good thing, right? Belly laugh

    luvto!  You are so awesome!

I try.. flutter eyelashes ..tho I usually don't succeed. Silly face

Regarding the game....remember,   its  no-sense.    Big smile   As Usual.

I had to add this on:   I am playing  Dark Canvas:  A Brush With Death.   I really am
enjoying it,   but I really sometimes wonder about our "heroine"  (sometimes "hero").
They do not seem to see the same things I do and they are determined to do things
the hard way.   If someone has told you to meet them at their house,   why do you
have to become the repair person for them?   Especially when I have my doubts about
    that person.   Unlike my character.
If someone's life is in danger,  why are we doing everything but trying to save their
    life?
Enjoyable games.   Just forget about logic.    Belly laugh

Yes, luvtoread, we must forget about logic when playing games! I don't really need to hunt for a screwdriver when a butter knife will work just as well (unless it's a Phillips-head, then it don't work well at all)!! I don't necessarily need gloves when rummaging through dirt. And I will cut thread with my teeth.  Laugh

I'm looking for a game to play and I think I'll play Into the Haze.

I'm replaying Dire Grove. Bloody hell! No hint outside HOPs. No useful black bar tips. No SG, why do all these bleeding MCF games have to be such hard work!

Not to mention loud and gut wrenching and nerve rending!  La la la!

OH YES...Dire Grove. Heart ..play at night with the lights off!!   Shock

Don't forget the Morphing Objects... Heart  Heart .

I see you posted when I did.    I think that  DG was pretty much the first of its kind.
With the MO,   videos....and quite truthfully certain parts scared the bejeesus out of
me.   I felt cold just looking at the scenery.
Its like that game broke the gaming mold.

There's morphing objects? They must be in the CE. Pity, I like morphing objects.

I got DG about 2yrs ago and remember being impressed then with it creepiness. And I remember the videos drove me nuts. But I didn't remember having so much trouble with it. I've spent almost 2 hours on it and have just found the first student!

A lot of people were thrown off by the videos, relating them to Blair Witch Project.  It's really all in how you look at it.  For me, the videos are simply a different way of telling the story -- they're cutscenes that you can watch at your leisure.

Any time you're stuck, retrace your steps, look everywhere.  You'll likely find a HOS that needs to be done and will get you back on track.

LOVED Dire Grove!  The only IHOG I've played more is Phantasmat.

Well, now, Phantasmat I understand a little better. I love that one too. Can't tell you why. But every time I play it I tell myself I should play it more often (no chance of that now - just too many games). I think it's just that I like the young girl character so much. There's something ethereal, which was of course the point, but it always appeals to me.

I get videos, and I agree they are an excellent way of telling the story - in fact, they are brilliant at it. Too much so for me. I READ Stephen King's novels, I NEVER watch his movies!  Spooky bats

Wow, it's really bitterly cold here...and I'm sitting in front of the fireplace. I can't seem to warm up.
I heard on the news we've got another winter storm headed our way Sunday night (possible 9-12 inches of snow) with a high of 9 degrees Tuesday and a low of -2.  faints
I don't know how people in the upper Midwest tolerate this bone-chilling cold.

I replayed Dire Grove not too long ago & I love it!! Still like MCF: RTR a little bit more.
