I really do love this series... probably the best of all of them including MCF and Mystery Trackers.

Okay, this game is just as beautiful and satisfying as I expect from this series... at least so far.

The Dark Parables games are just SO beautiful to look at, and the music is always good... and I like the frOG aspect rather than a straight up HOG... at least the way they do them.

I'm a happy camper at the moment. Dark & Eerie Games Thread - Page 11 Kumbaya

Another Dark Parables fan here!!!  Happy bounce I love the haunting melodies in any Blue Tea game!  note2

I've already partially demo'd Rapunzel & I'm getting it. Hopefully, gonna pair it up with Fright in a BOGO sale (if we get one this weekend, which I doubt we will). My GC is due Saturday, so a BOGO sale would be sweet!
If not, maybe there will be some kind of sale.

Genki, looks like some fantastic deals there!

Here are my thoughts for Mysteries of Neverville: The Runestone of Light.

Admittedly, the demo lured me in. I liked the graphics. The HO scenes were difficult. I don't mind searching the same scene twice, but a big no-no (for me), is repeating a puzzle.
    And, the ending absolutely sucked!

2 huge thumbs-down from me because of the ending!

dj--If not this weekend,    maybe for the 4th of July weekend.    Can you wait that long?   Overreaction

I had an expiring pcc,  was almost going to get Neverville,   but for some reason it did not
grab me,   so got Witches Prank instead,   which I demoed ages ago.
So glad you let me know I made the right decision.

I just finished Hope Lake.      Had esme in mind when I played.    Especially when
I came across the mannequinn in the bathtub.   Big smile   Tho I must say,   that was the least
    ickiest thing in there!
Then there was the heaving bosoms.   OH!
I really rather enjoyed it,   very glad for the jumping map after awhile,  really needed it.
My only "complaint" is in the HO's, they mislabeled things. For ex, I was suppose to
look for a wrench. Finally just hit the hint, and it points me to a key.
Next time I am back there, it says "key". So I clicked on the wrench.
    This happened a few times.
The storyline wasen't to bad, tho I was wondering why one of your tasks was
"Find out who the mystery person in the cloak is" when you figure that out pretty quickly.
It was finding out his reason for what he was doing that I thought interesting.
And what he was planning on doing.

At this time, I am holding off on any more CE's.    The last one I just finished playing,
Rite of Passage with the lonely evil girl and the fog she creates,   well,   I just had no
interest in the bonus game.    Thank goodness I bought it on sale,    but this is not the
first time I just could not get through Bonus part.

My list for STEAM games bought is getting as long as my BF games,
I really must start playing those.
I also must stop checking up on the latest games on sale.  SOS!

I also must stop voting. This should be easy as the ones I vote for are never picked.  Gah!

Oh, I forgot about the 4th of July sale, luvtoread. Thanks for reminding me!

Gosh, I hope I can wait...DH will be OOT & I was really wanting to play Fright all day & night.
(Even though I have quite a few stockpiled games)

I am playing Phenomenon: Outcome & it's very good. As with all the Phenomenon games, it is  predominantly a sci-fi game. Numerous puzzles and the 2 scene HO scenes and the HO's are not that frequent. It is a continuation in the series, but I don't think you have to play the first 2 games. I did because I really enjoyed the first one (a SE) & bought the second (CE).
I do like a good sci-fi adventure every once in awhile!

Esme, in Mysteries of Neverville: The Runestone of Light, only 1 puzzle was repeated. It did surprise me because I haven't seen a repeated puzzle in a long time. Could've been a glitch, IDK as I didn't run into any other glitches.
After working the silly puzzle AGAIN, it all went downhill from that point & I almost didn't finish it.

lol, luvtoread! I loved the new Rite of Passage game!  Laugh

I'll be honest--I am totally clueless about that stuff. I see that there are different teams.
I think I got one card (from voting and buying Runespell Overture--which you convinced me
in your review-- da blame ).

But other than that, just becoming a "What do they have on sale" addict.

OK, I'm just gonna complain.      Gah!

I bought the third Shiver yesterday on sale when I bought DP Rapunzel.  Well I played it first, as I was in a dark and creepy mood.  The FIRST Shiver, Hitchhiker, scared the bejeezus out of me - two words - the morgue.  The second was OK, but they wasted a ton of good potential and a great Poltergeist with a ho-hum lackluster dude I had to boss around.  This third one, Moonlit Grove, well it was just SAD.  By the end of my bonus game, I was actually crying.  And more importantly, it wasn't scary at all.  This does not make me excited about the 4th one, which is sad because after Justie pointed me to the demo, I kind of liked it.

HHHHMMMMPPPHHH.  I like the pretty fantasty games well enough, but there are so few really creepy games that it just Makes Me Mad when they take a great series and ruin it.

The 3rd installment was a well-crafted game, and not too easy on the hard mode, but it wasn't the fright I expected from a Shiver game.  Phooey.  I'm too cranky for Dark Parables now, so I'm off to play Haunted Legends House of Vox, which is the other game I got yesterday.

    /end rant.    Yeah right

Crossing my fingers you like the game pippi!

Here's a Beta from a series not to my mind overly D&E, but with its own unique creepiness factor:

    The next Nightmare Realm!

Thanks Justie!  I'll check out the series; it is new-to-me.   Offering for helping me find games to love.

Re-reading my rant, I should be clear.  Shiver:  Moonlit Grove is a well-done game.  It played very well, was challenging, and had an interesting story.  It just didn't live up to my expectations for a scary Shiver game. <---- That is what my rant was about - the fact that the Shiver series stopped being scary, not that they're crappy games.

Also due to plot, I think Orphaned should stay away from it.   Smile

P.S.  Genki, I picked up Memoria during the GOG flash sale - I'm ready for the group play!   Big smile

I agree with you, pippi! The first Shiver was truly creepy (the morgue room, yuck!) and remains one of the scariest HOGs I've ever played.
Subsequent games in the series have not been nearly as scary, though very well-designed.

I just finished demo'ing Fright (well, I have 38 more minutes of time left). Yep, seems to be a D&E game alright. Love the highly interactive HO scenes.
Played good, but I had the intermittent voiceover problem that quite a few people are experiencing. I can deal with that. I'm worried about running into a major problem further on.
I'm not sure whether to throw caution to the wind & get it or wait...I guess I'll keep checking the tech issues thread and decide later.
Somehow, I knew I wouldn't be able to play Fright all day & night. Going yardsale-ing with my sister!

    Dumb Question Alert  Embarrassed

Who has Fright?  I remember snagging the link to Justie's Beta and really liking it.  I can't find the release at BFG.  Since y'all were talking about a real 1/2 off sale ... (which yeah, I would like too!) ... I thought maybe.

Just finished the main game of DP7 and really enjoyed it, though it did the "choose one of two endings" thing that sort of annoys me. Now I want to know what the other ending is! Hmm...

Not going to go back and replay it soon to find out though. I'm not a big re-player of games.

This is actually one where I do want to go back and finish the bonus section too. I've been skipping those lately, which sort of defeats the purpose of a CE. I love this series of games. It's officially my favorite! Heart

My suggestion--those of you who have finished playing DP7  compare notes on which ending
you chose,  then let the other know if they missed out on anything from the other ending.
Saves time and a  "I replayed for THAT ending???!!!".   pfft

    Unless you like replaying.

Which esme does not.  (I admit, neither do I).    So,   somebody needs
    to relieve her curiosity   Hmm...
or she might not  rant for us.   Shock
She will become to happy in her game playing!!     Belly laugh

I am playing MOTW: Spirit Wolf.   I have to say,  it is not overwhelming
me,   though the one with the Winter Queen  being overwhelmed by flower power
just made me not want to buy.
Fiends and Faeries and Chinese Healer so far are my two favorites.

Anyway,  I had an  "aha!  the devs told us so" game moment.    You know how we kvetch
about not getting our hands dirty and needing rakes to move leaves?
Well,   Jesse steps into a pile of leaves and sets off a trap  (the crow being
there  made me suspicious, cause he's evil,   but "I"  didn't warn Jesse).
That is why we need rakes. Cause bad things can happen to our body parts.

I was oblivious to these dangers as a kid. Then again, I was the one who raked up
the leaves into the pile. No evil crows around.

I still remember removing leaves with a fan  (the kind you wave in
front of your face)  in the first Grim Tales-and thinking that is
just so stupid. I still think its stupid.
Then again, it is Grim Tales.
    .

I think I am done saying whatever it is I am saying.     Zip it
