Changing the subject but - ooh Justie I agree! I don't have regular TV or cable, just a Roku for Netflix and Amazon Instant Video, but I just started watching Orphan Black (late to the party as usual) and it is terrific!!!

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
Hi. I saw that The Dead Mountaineer's Hotel is on sale at GamersGate and wondered if any of you have played it.
It seems like I played a demo about 2 years ago. This was before I started playing RPGs and other action games, so I couldn't tolerate the 360° camera movement. I don't get nauseous anymore, though.
If you've played it, did you run it on Windows 7? I don't want to buy a game that won't play on my laptop. I've never been able to play Scratches as it's not compatible with my system. Even at $3.38 USD, I'll be upset if I can't run it.
Are the puzzles overly difficult? How was the story/gameplay? Anything you can tell me will help me to make a decision. Thanks in advance.

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
BloomingLilac--I bought and played Dead Mountaineer Hotel around 2 years ago.
It is a Point and Click LF Adventure Game. Which are my favorites.
I didn't finish playing it, as I got stuck and then was distracted by other games.
I forget what exactly I got stuck on. But I was less experienced at playing those
type of games, that contributed to my not getting back to it.
There has been mention over at Challengers of doing a group game play of it.
I believe I played it on my W7---but not positive. I know Steam shows it as playing
on W7.
I have seen the reviews and most of them rate it poorly.
I guess it depends on your preference, but I did enjoy it.
Well, what I played.
Not sure why you could not play Scratches. That's the problem with games;
one may just not be able to play for whatever reason.
I know I could not finish playing The Journey Down. It played horribly on my
laptop, yet others had no problems.
The story, if I remember right, was about solving the death of the guy who owned
the place (?).
Dealing with the different characters there, cannot remember much about the puzzles.
Sorry, I know I am not a lot of help, but its been awhile.
I think I will replay it this winter.

What I find funny is that if you look at the positive reviews....they tell you NOT to buy it!!

Thanks for the comments. I read one review on the Steam forum and decided not to buy it.

I guess I cannot blame you. I would hesitate also after reading the reviews.

Looks a great game! And at only £2.36, I HAD to buy it.
Downloading it now.
The GamersGate page says it will work on Windows 7
EDIT:
Just downloaded it, and played the start (yes, it works fine on Windows 7 ), and WOW it looks amazing!
Love how the cursor changes for look\talk\interact
Graphically, it reminds me of the Syberia games. Gorgous!

@luv - I decided to buy Rhiannon: Curse of the Four Branches instead. The story and atmosphere really drew me in. Hope I can finish it as I normally don't play large file adventures. I just wanted something different.
@Frodo - Hi. Glad you like the game. It's on sale for a while, I think, so if you enjoy it, I may go ahead and pick it up. Thanks for your comments.
Happy gaming!

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
Hey Lilac! Good to see you!!!
I just finished the Dark Overlords A.K.A. Chickenbutt Dwarfs Who Are No Help at All. It wasn't too bad. I mostly enjoyed it. It has the same logic issues we always complain about, but I'm used to that sort of thing. I'd recommend it as long as you're not going to take it too seriously. The puzzles were fun. The HO scenes were varied, but a little too plentiful for me.
Still better than the freaky blue cat buddy game.

but then cannot find it the rest of the week.

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
Let me know how you like it, Luvto! It made me giggle at times.
I'm not sure what to play next. I want something good, but slightly different too. And I want to already own it! LOL Too many unplayed games.
And just so I get it out there, I will NOT be buying the Puppetshow game.
Probably.
Well, maybe for my mother.

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
Hi everybody! Seriously, I thought the Puppetshow series had ended. The new one looks sort of steampunkish & honestly, I don't really like steampunk.
No cute animal helpers (a huge plus in my book!), but I think there's a contraption to scan a screen with, which I'm growing a little tired of. I think there's one in the new Shadow Wolf Mysteries game, too.
I have finished Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride (I know, sounds like a bad romance novel). I have to say, it was a great game!! Interesting storyline, superb graphics, and easy game progression made this one a joy to play!! Collectibles, morphing objects, achievements, etc., I got my collectibles & MO's mixed up, resulting in NOT finding all of either one!!
It was also a very long game (for me, since I am a slo-poke player!) with no peeks at the SG and I worked all the puzzles (as they were workable without skipping...so, yay! I didn't have to pull my hair and curse the screen, neither!).
I've put it in my favs folder & I'll replay it for collectibles & MO's. Also, because I really liked it!!

lol, Genki!! Yes, just like the pic!!
I start off good (most times) when working a puzzle. You know, lots of patience & stuff. But if I'm stumped for more than an hour...wow, such unladylike behavior from me!
And there are some puzzles I do not like to see at all.

I have a few puzzles that I hate to see too, DJ.
For me, I always hate the one where you have to pour liquid into different containers to get to the correct amount. Hate that one!

Yeah... Tiny Bang Story was pretty hard for me when I came upon one of those slide-the-segments-to-reassemble-the-picture puzzles. I am SO bad at those, and NO SKIPS in TBS!

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
lol, JustTheFacts! I will try my best to work puzzles because I know I can do it. It's just that sometimes my brain doesn't want to cooperate with my need to solve a puzzle to get an achievement if one is offered.
Heck, in Elephant's games, I always get the achievement for taking longer than 10 minutes in a HO scene.
Esme, I dread the "measuring liquid" puzzles. You've got to think ahead in those & I can't seem to do that. I will try to do them & sometimes I luck out and get them right.
The "sliding squares around" puzzles kill me. I refuse to even try. I don't like the "different colors without the same color touching" puzzles. It's frustrating to have to start over all the time and I think they're boring.
I hate the "jump over 1 until there's 3 left" puzzles, similar to Chinese Checkers. Blah!
The worst puzzle (IMO) is...when you have to surround an object so it doesn't escape off the board. Most times, I'll skip this kind of a puzzle. Thankfully, I don't see many of them in games.
Surprisingly, I actually like "pipe" puzzles.

LMAO, luvtoread! Most definitely!!
Really, I didn't know I could put together the stream of curse words that issue forth from my mouth when I can't solve a puzzle.

I love pipe puzzles! There is a whole pipe puzzle game that I got from FB and I LOVED it!
My problem is that I get too impatient. I could solve them, but I don't feel like sitting and working it out sometimes when I want to know how the story ends, so I skip it.

See, I must be strange. Nothing will make use hint in a HOP! (very useful skill in F2P) I will happily ponder life's meaning while trying to find that damn spider.. oh there he is- on the poor skeleton's rib cage!
Oh! I love pipe puzzles too! what's the name of the game esme?
