Speaking of gory cats, well, sorta, why do all the cool people love horror stuff? (she asks of the best of the best coolest people who love all forms of yuckiness to scare themselves with!)
I mean, really? What's the appeal? I don't care how miserable or pretty, fair or foul, so long as it is a story I like well presented. So, um, I like Stephen King's stuff because it is so well written of oooops! I think I love dark and eerie too!
Why?!??!!!

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
LOL, thanks for the clip, Genki!
I love dark, eerie, creepy and chilling but NOT gory -- gotta draw the line somewhere.
Wait, I take that back a little - I like American Horror Story and a fair amount of zombie stuff so I guess if it's presented with a big side of camp gore can be okay too.
Like Justie said it's all in the story, and - for me - dark stories are often way more compelling and entertaining (and certainly escapist) than the "feel-good" sunshiney love-type stories which are pretty BORING to me.

Going to demo 9 Elefants (Elephants?) this weekend. I find myself replaying puzzlers often, maybe this will fit in.

Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop - yeah it's not new (best anime ever though, imo) but she still rocks!!
(And I am so far from "cool" in my real life, hehe.)

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
Lol, y'all crack me up!
The Silent Hills vid is gross!! I could never play a game like that either. Nightmares are made of stuff like that!!!!
I think it's hilarious we enjoy and play the D&E games, but we can't play the really scary games!
I don't like gory, slasher, blood everywhere, type of games or movies even though I do watch The Walking Dead and American Horror Story. (Which reminds me, American Horror Story is about a circus this year)
In casual games, I love a good D&E storyline with all the special effects applied appropriately and absolutely NO cartoon-y graphics.
I like the trepidation of opening a door and entering a room, seeing what surprises are in store for me and they're never really that bad in a casual game. (Not true in a survival-horror game, those surprises are usually bad...and scary!)
There's something about a darker storyline that holds my interest. The buildup of "things to come." I love it!!
I am a total nerd in real life! And not in a smart way!!
I'm also a klutz and can/will trip over anything! I blame that on my bad ankle!!

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
I'm with y'all; I'm not into gore and blood. There have been some games I was really interested in because they were tagged 'Story-rich', but then I saw the 'Hack 'n Slash', 'Gore', etc. tags and had to pass Obviously some gore is OK since I love zombies (esp. The Walking Dead games ) but it's not mindless gore -- there's a true purpose to it, and, at least in the games, it's not over-the-top.
Blood and gore JUST for the sake of blood and gore is not my style

I am developing my skills in the area of bumping and knocking over, and just recently I have had a massive leap in my losing my balance and falling down!! I blame it on the meds!

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
Lol, Justie, I'm working on the skill of looking cool after I've tripped! And I think I'm doing pretty good because I don't even pay attention anymore, whereas I used to get so embarrassed.
You know the expensive blue jeans with all the rips in them? Almost all of mine have rips in the knees from falling down.
And my bad ankle...I fell and sprained it a long time ago and every once in awhile, it'll give out. Seems to be happening more frequently though.

I trip on air and then laugh out loud at myself. Don't know if that's considered cool or not, I just think it's funny. But then I also talk to myself out in public so I might just be crazy.

I talk to myself all the time, but I try not to do it in front of people.
I'm always talking to my dog, she loves it!!

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
Hi everybody!
I haven't been around a whole lot... life is bananas-crazy right now. I hope all of you are doing well though!
I'm home sick-ish today with either a cold or sinus crud, so I'm playing Mysterium: Lake Bliss. It's not a brand new game, but since I'm so behind, it's new to me. I'm really enjoying it quite a bit. It seems well done, the graphics are good, the HO scenes are varied, and it's mostly logical. Mostly.
I'd recommend it so far!

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
Hi everybody! I hear ya, Esme! Bananas-crazy, for real!
I've only finished a few games and nothing really memorable to speak of.
I'm waiting on my GC to show up so I can take advantage of the sale. I'd like to get Macabre 2 and also, the new Grim Legends.
Gosh, I get all my Grim games mixed up!
The one game I've been hooked on for the past 3, 4, 5 or more days is Arizona Rose and the Pirates' Riddles (the first one). I don't know what it is, I start playing and like 2 or 3 hours later, I hadn't realized that much time has passed.
The one thing that bothers me about this game, though, is the 15x15 grids. Those teeny-tiny squares are hard to see with these old eyes and sometimes, the background blends in with an unopened square causing me to miscount, resulting in me making a mistake (which I hate to do!) and I haven't reached my quota for mistakes...yet. Yay!!
Still, I am having a lot of fun playing!
