Dark & Eerie Games Thread
Tentacles is the Haunted Halls series, which has a very similar first game. I always have to double check when I am commenting on them that I have the right one, so you're not alone.

You are right! I (obviously) get them mixed up too. I dislike the Haunted Halls series, but the first AA game was pretty creepy. Was the second one the orphanage one??

Yup, with the kids with paranormal abilities, and some bad attitudes!

I really liked the first Haunted Hall game. The second one up to a point, the third
one just downright refused to play.
I am now dl/ding Mind Invasion. Pretty sure have never played any of them.
That's what I need. More games to demo.

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
luvtoread, I have Fall of the New Age. It's on my unplayed games list.
I'll be checking out today's CE. I came here to see who the dev was because I couldn't remember (I even wrote it down, but can't find my notes).
I agree with JustTheFacts, the first Agency of Anomalies was the creepiest. Plus, the longest bonus, it felt like a SE attached to a CE. This was one of their games I upgraded. I had a little problem adjusting to the storyline (war experiments kind of weird me out), but the gameplay was awesome.
And, the other games in the series are just as good, maybe not as creepy, IMO.
Same here with the first HH, I loved it. Subsequent games got ridiculous (IMO).

Yay, thanks for your suggestions! Going to demo 1, 3 and 4 .
I really liked the first HH, although I thought the plot was pretty silly. But I didn't like the next one in that series and gave up soon after that.

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
Wasn't there a whole bunch of us laughing at the stupid boyfriend in the first one? Seems to me that it was one of the infamous "dumb and helpless boyfriend" games where you have to go in and drag his sorry butt out of all kinds of trouble.
Those games tickle me!

Yes the boyfriend's a nitwit and at least one of the 'horror' stories was pretty laughable as well. (Was it the woman who didn't think she was pretty or some such, and needed a mirror to be cured?)

I'm sure you're right, Rmom. I don't remember much about the game other than the boyfriend, probably because there was a minor uproar when the second one came out because our character stayed with his clueless self. (By minor uproar, I think it may have just been me and Jeanniemouse. LOL)

Finished The Crooked Man and the Crooked Cat. Wow! Loved it! The storyline was fantastic in Blue Tea's "fairytale gone awry" way.
The bonus was, well...sort of macabre.
And I didn't find all of the achievements in either game!! I am consistent like that!
I saw that you were enjoying it, then luvto said it was good.... so guess what I'm playing now!!
You guys are correct; I love it too! I have never disliked a Blue Tea game. I know there were some who disliked the Red Riding Hood one, but for some reason it didn't affect me negatively. I love their style and story-telling. The puzzles are great. It looks like some time and thought and effort went into it. I'm a happy woman!

I love Blue Tea games, also, though the game where we had to choose between the tribes...I was uncomfortable making the choice.
I had tears in my eyes at the end of Cursery. Gosh, I'm such a softie.
The boyfriend in the HH games (Tim, I think, IIRC) is a dumbass, but he is cute!

Ooh, another one to demo! I haven't tried Cursery yet, and I'll admit I stayed far away from the "choose a side" game (forgot the title).
I'm doing a bunch of work from home today but will d/l Cursery and those Agency of Anomalies games soon!

In HH 2, This is a spoiler about the Bonus Game, cute but dumbkoff Tim seems to
forget that he has a sister. He just floats away home while you save her.
R-mom--I think you are thinking about Witches something or the other, where some
witch who doesn't like aging steals school girls youth and beauty?
Hmmmm....let me look that up. Ah'll Be Back
Witch Hunter: Stolen Beauty Is that the one?
esme--I, too, enjoyed the Red Riding Hood game.

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
No, I never played Witch Hunter.
In the first HH you are curing the psychiatric patients. When you get upstairs, there are a few more patients. One is someone who was frightened of something from his childhood, right? My memory of games is dim but I recall a room with scary looking toys that have to made 'friendly' again.
Across from that patient is a woman who - IIRC - is terribly anguished because she doesn't think she's pretty.
Now, I don't mean to belittle people's fears, anxiety and depression, but compared to the other problems we have to resolve in this game, I'm sorry but this was downright laughable and obviously a last minute thought.
ETA - I sound like I'm belittling body image issues, which isn't what I meant to do at all. The solution to this woman's problem is so easy and pat, though, that it seemed rather silly to me. No offense meant.

- Spoiler:
- You have to find a silver tray that you polish and give to her to cure her of that tragic notion, cause she IS pretty of course, duh. We last see her posing in an evening gown and admiring herself obsessively in the tray...er, mirror. Hallelujah she's cured! (Although who knows? She may now be suffering from narcissistic personality disorder.)

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
The game where we had to "choose" was Enchantia: Wrath of the Phoenix Queen. (I had to look it up because it was bugging me, I had it confused with another game)
I think the problem with me & that game was...I was so focused on the story while playing & when it came time for the big "decision", I was taken aback, shocked, stunned...I mean, my decision would have huge consequences and I didn't want to do it.
The thing with Blue Tea is, I get so immersed in their stories. Their games are beautifully done with awesome graphics & their trademark melancholy music and they really know how to set up a scene. When you enter one, you can click here or there and get a short description of your surroundings and it's always worded just right.
And their storylines progress smoothly in gameplay. I may get lost a time or two, but I can proceed without looking at the SG, it might take me a minute to think.
Blue Tea games just get to me, emotionally. And that's a good thing!

I remember that too, Rmom. It was a bit "off" in my mind too. The whole game was creepy that way.
luvto- glad to hear I'm not the only one who enjoyed it!
As far as Enchantia, I think I never played it after it upset so many people. Was that Blue Tea?? I don't remember.
DJ- thanks again for recommending Cursery. I'm really enjoying it so far!

I have to laugh, my one-sentence feelings.
You know, that's the kind of Official Review I don't like at BF (and here I am, doing it).
I can't do a formal Review because I can't word things right. That's better left for the pros around here like Genki, JustTheFacts, Sportygal & anyone else who does a formal Review, they do it so good!
Thank you, all of you, for your outstanding Reviews!!!!
Me...I just play the game & share my feelings, lol!!

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
R-mom OH--OK--I had completely forgot about that. I do remember the first one you had to
save, wasen't there like a giant octopus or something you had to defeat? That was
creepy. Its been so long since I played it I rather forgot about all those people with
their nightmares. I do remember "my Love, Tim" telling me he would take it from
here and then proceed to screw up again.
Enchantia--I really loved that one, but I, too, got so caught up in the story that
the outcome of the tribe took me by surprise cause I had it in my head that I could
avoid that. I remember thinking this could not be happening. Other than that it
really was a beautiful game.
dj--between our making up game names, sharing our feelings and esme's rants,
I say we keep things pretty interesting!

Take a look at the videos for this game... pretty scary! I read that the game locations are based on the blueprints of an actual asylum! *shiver*

Does anyone else own A Vampyre Story? I have a boxed copy that's been sitting in my drawer, uninstalled, for two plus years. I'd love to do a group play if anyone has it / is up for it

Can't cope with platformers (yay, finally figured out what that word means!), so no go on Nihilumbra for me, which is a shame, because it looks seriously cool.
dj, thanks for compliments re reviews, I do enjoy doing them, but I look forward every midnight to you guys and your 'feelings'. I find them very entertaining indeed!
I'd completely forgotten about the ending of Enchantia!! It never really bothered me, but then, when it comes to games I am amoral - if you are going to spend your time in a world full of ghosts, demons, vampires and such, some of which are sometimes the good guys, then I say suspend all aspects of reality and just go with the flow. Besides, it made a valid point, as I remember, and in fact, that seemed to me to be very much a "high moral ground" tone to it - didn't you have to decide to do the wrong thing? or the lesser of two evils? I seem to remember it was something like that.
Okay, off my soap box. Today's scheduled game for me is Cursery, bumped up the list after everyone's comments here about it.

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
Well, I completed Cursery. Didn't enjoy it much though. Graphics on my pc were awful, ruined some brilliant artwork. I hate those damn puzzle boards! And the story was so confusing! I would have loved a diary or something. Wish I could have liked it more, because I found the whole idea very appealing. Oh, and I forgot to mention in my review, the crooked guy kept changing hair colour and facial features!! That's just sloppy.
So, any suggestions for next game?
