Re: GGG - Featured Game
Well I am disappointed! This game has been really fun, although it has some annoying errors like, for instance, some game instructions are completely wrong (for different games), some misspellings (i.e. "check" for "chalk"), other mistakes. But I'm totally willing to overlook b/c the game has been pretty fun to play.
But now I'm stuck. In the boathouse HO scene, I can't open up a box b/c the game won't allow me to press the correct buttons. (That is, I can press them but the game won't recognize that I have.) So I can't get the necessary items to progress through the game. I have closed and re-entered the scene. I have closed the game and re-opened it. I have checked the walkthrough. Nothing works to get me past this glitch. At this point I'm not willing to restart the game because I'm right near the end and I've put so much time into the game already. I'll try again later but may have to chalk this game up to a waste for me.

Re: GGG - Featured Game
Oh yes, I had that problem, too. How did I get past it...?
*thinks*
Oh, right! I'd hit one of the buttons before I had the whole "code", and didn't realize that one of them was still depressed! Make sure you have the right three depressed, then make sure that none of the others are still pressed down!

Wow, what do you know! I just checked and yes, the other buttons were pressed down, though it wasn't obvious to see. And here I thought it was a glitch to do with my aging computer.genkicoll wrote:Oh yes, I had that problem, too. How did I get past it...?

Thanks, Genki! I can't tell you how many times I re-entered the scene and kept trying. Now I can actually finish the game!!!

Re: GGG - Featured Game
Well I finished the game, kind of. The final scene went black so I didn't see anything happening. After a while, I hit the "skip" button (the only thing I could see) but the credits began rolling. I got the gist of it, but missed anything that was said or occurred amongst the main characters. Oh well.

Re: GGG - Featured Game
Oh, MAN! Well, you didn't miss a lot.
- Spoiler:
- The final piece goes in to the puzzle, smoke and flashing lights, the bodies of the students (alive, but unconscious) appear. Dylan's crush is lying on the floor, and it shows her reaching down to brush the hair out of his eyes.
- Spoiler:
- There certainly were some burning questions in my mind about this process and how Samhain would allow it since we released his *other* souls... and we didn't have the sword of light!

Re: GGG - Featured Game
Thanks Genki and you're right - I didn't miss much! LOL
But what about
But what about
- SPOILER:
- bad girl Samantha? (Who of course we knew was the villain from the first scene where she's the sullen one among smiling friends, haha. Very subtle! ) Was she somehow related to Talutha (or whatever that witch's name was) or did she acquire the witch's power some other way? Or maybe I missed that in the story somehow, lol.
- SPOILER:
- For me it totally lost its creepiness when it became a story about being helpful to a bunch of ghosts. I wish it could've retained its edge like Cruel Games: Red Riding Hood.

Re: GGG - Featured Game
About Samantha, you did miss something:
- Spoiler:
- It comes out that Taluta is her descendant, and all females in the family are witches. As for closure? Didn't happen! I was looking forward to Dylan confronting her about WHY she hated them all so much, but we didn't get to see it!

Today is the last day for Shadows: Price For Our Sins, and tomorrow I'll put up our final Halloween banner.
I'm looking for a new game to play -- any suggestions or requests for the next featured game?

How about Chimeras or Headless Horseman? They're 2 of my favourite 'obscure' games.

Chimeras is one of my personal favorites, I LOVED that game!
I'll play Headless Horseman (since it's on my unplayed list) and look for good images for banners. Thanks, Justie!

Re: GGG - Featured Game
Our new featured game is
Cursed Fates: The Headless Horseman.
My general feeling about the game is that this is for the more experienced players, both content and gamplay-wise.
The thing that impressed me the most is the way that time passes in the game. It's understated, with locations seeming a little different each time you visit. "I don't remember it being that dark," or "Were those lights on when saw this scene before," or "Was it storming last time I was here??" The graphics change to indicate the passage of time, and it's brilliantly done.
I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get any good screen captures to make banners out of, due to large amounts of eddying fog, but I managed to get some that will look nice
You can see my full review HERE.

Excellent! Thank you, I look forward to your analysis of the game.
Good review of Shiver 2, by the way. I liked that game, better than the first but think Shiver 3 was the best of them.

Re: GGG - Featured Game
For the first time, I'm featuring a series, rather than a single game.
The Christmas Wonderland games are a series of straight HOG's for the hidden object lovers.
These games feature piles and piles of objects to find, with intermittent mini-games for your enjoyment.
These games are great for those who enjoy competing against themselves or family members, as they all keep track of your score. You can play timed or untimed, depending on your preference. Finding candy canes on the scenes increases your score, as does finding items quickly in succession.
So, no actual review from me, as I've never actually played the games! I HAVE, however, watched my sis play them over and over again -- she LOVES them, as she loves all straight HOG's. The holiday-themed games from Casual Arts (like these) come second only to the Big City Adventure games for her.
All of the banners are taken from HOS in the games, so as you'll see, they're not entirely junk piles
If you enjoy straight HOG's and being scored, definitely check these games out!
Series links: Christmas Wonderland 1 & 2, Christmas Wonderland 3, Christmas Wonderland 4

Re: GGG - Featured Game
I haven't done a feature for a while, so I figure it's about time! This time instead of focusing on a single game, I'm going to feature a developer: Amanita Design.
Amanita makes wonderfully quirky point-and-click puzzle adventures, and some of them are FREE to play on their site! Games such as Samorost 1, Rocketman, Questionaut, The Quest for the Rest, and Osada can all be played online! They have flash-demos of their other games, too.
Games like:
Samorost 2 (Today's screen)
Machinarium, their first full-length game
and their most recent game, Botanicula
I highly recommend games by Amanita -- they're delightfully fun! At the very least, head to their website to give the games a try online (no downloads or DRM) HERE.

Re: GGG - Featured Game
You might have noticed that I've started a new featured game -- this is a dark but very interesting adventure by the name of The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav.
As far as Daedalic games go, The Whispered World is the one that seemed to get the most attention, BUT, I feel that this title is leagues ahead of TWW, both in story and gameplay.
To read about why I loved this game, check out my review HERE.
I just got #2 in the series, Memoria, and I can't wait to get started on it~!
This is a game I definitely recommend checking out... assuming that you enjoy a game with great graphics, an involving story, and adventure games in general

Re: GGG - Featured Game
I know I mentioned this before, but seeing as you are playing #1, let me know your thoughts
There are things I do remember, but
When I played Memoria, I just got a totally different perspective about him than in #1.
I just don't want to give too much away, so once you are moved and settled and
back to playing, then maybe we could discuss it more.
- spoiler:
- what exactly Satinav had to do with this game
There are things I do remember, but
- spoiler:
- the Ravens never made much
sense to me

Re: GGG - Featured Game
Hold that thought, Justie -- lots of people have this one on their trade list in the GOG Classifieds thread. If you don't have any game codes, or not the ones they want, you can possibly buy a cheaper game and trade it for Satinav! Look at this one, for instance. He might trade Age of Wonders (a $3.99 game) -- and there are many other traders who have the Satinav!

Am now totally overwhelmed! Much easier for me to buy than trying to figure out how to trade something I don't yet have! Am a little fuzzy this morning.
