Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
I'm not celiac, but I do have a brutal gluten intolerance. Getting exposed to gluten causes a deep, deep pain, low fever, and strong feeling of malaise. Ugh! It usually doesn't last for over three days, but... Well, maybe I'll feel better tomorrow!

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
Oh Genki, that is awful. My Mom has a non-Celiac gluten intolerance, so I know exactly what you're going through. It's pretty similar to what happens when I accidentally ingest meat, and that is No Fun at All.
Funny Story about that -
We ate in a restaurant, and they had a soup I wanted.
Asked waiter: Is this vegetarian?
Waiter: Yea, no meat.
Me: Are you sure?
Waiter: YES. Like totally positive.
I spent the next 3 days hating the thought of food. My sweet SO calls the restaurant to ask about this. Nobody knows. Finally he speaks to the Manager and requests the ingredients.
Response: Blah, Blah, vegetable, blah chicken bouillon, blah blah
SO: Um, that's not vegetarian.
Manager: How do you know?
SO: Uh, maybe the word chicken clued me in?
The worst part is the soup wasn't nearly as delicious as it sounded. It was really salty. I think that's why I couldn't taste the chicken flavor.
Now I can laugh about that. Here's hoping your story will eventually have a punch line. So sorry Genki. Get Well Soon.

It's no fun at all, is it. I'm coeliac & diabetic, so I have to really watch what I eat.

Hugs to all of you who have such severe food intolerances. My dd suffers with this plus she has fibromyalgia which seems to sometimes be triggered by certain foods so I can appreciate what you go through.
Genki, hope you feel like yourself again soon!

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
Life as we know it would come to an end as far as I was concerned if I developed food intolerances! I am diabetic, but I just try to ignore that and eat more veges. But I live for my food and most of it is bad for me. Apart from the weight causing me greater back problems, there are no obvious side-effects for me, so I'm not motivated. I know, I'll die young. That's okay. So long as I get my McDonalds once a month and my chocolate all the time lol

Pippi--the part where the waiter says "Yea- LIKE totally positive"
If they cannot speak without the word LIKE used that way, makes me suspicious of their
knowledge of anything!! ---That's the look you should've given him!!

Oh man, Pippi! That's awful! I've learned to be verrrry careful, and if they don't seem 100% positive, I simply don't eat there or eat something else.
Frodo, celiac (American spelling) is bad enough, but to be diabetic, too? I have a long list of foods that I can't eat besides the gluten stuff, but sugar... I'm completely addicted.
Justie, I sure hope your diabetes is not the type that will cause you amputations, etc. if ignored! *shudder*
By the way I am feeling much better today

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
Yes, RMom, I do take my meds etc. But avoiding carbs is impossible for me. I live on pasta, bread and potatoes. By comparison, the sugars are easier to avoid. But it's carbs in general that diabetics should be cutting down on.
I do take extra care of the possible side effects of the diabetes, like the circulation problems that can lead to gangrene and therefore amputation. And especially my eyes. Any hint of danger to them and I'd freak! Everything I do that's any fun at all requires keen eyesight. Oh, except patting pussy cats of course.

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
I like pasta as well. Too well, so the doctor kept getting on my back. I've cut back now on what I eat and have lost around 50 pounds. Still have more to go. The key is not giving up my favorite foods, but eating less of them. I use MyFitnessPal.com (app on my phone) and keep track of all the calories I eat. Am I perfect, no, I went to Long John Silver's and had fried fish on Friday, but generally try to keep on track most days. In fact my co-worker was laughing at me today when I poured out some of her cheese-itz and counted them out to get one serving!

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
lol, I envy you the self control and congrats on the 50 pounds!! If I could lose that much my doc would kiss me! (Not something I'd object to )
On the other hand, I promised myself some time ago that I would stop trying to improve myself - you know the usual - lose weight, get more exercise, quit smoking, cut back on meds, socialise more, etc. I have been happy for the first time in my life since I stopped, so I'm not inclined to do more than the bare essentials in those terms.
"living for the moment" instead of living for the future...

Well, Just, being happy is what counts. I would not have started the weight loss program myself, if not for my family have a weight loss challenge and a weigh in every week. It was started to motivate their father, my brother-in-law, to lose weight, which he really doesn't want to do. I was ready for a change and that was the motivation I needed.

Oh my goodness, hugs to all with food allergies.
The only thing I do is stay far away from spicy foods or I'm up all night.
luvtoread, I have to agree with you on Bluebeard's Castle 2. I've never played any of the Drawn games, but I think the artwork in Bluebeard is very similar to Drawn.
And the game itself is wonderful. I think it should go on Genki's Top SE games. I'm loving the puzzles! I'm not finished yet, so I'll wait until I get to the end before making any rash decisions.

Today is April Fool's Day, and while I find most pranks to be mean-spirited, I like what I Can Has Cheezburger has done... If you go there today, you'll find that

Congrats to kac on her weight loss; that's fantastic!! I should lose about 30 lbs. I exercise every day but I'm with JTF on the carb thing. I try reducing them but only wish I could keep it up.
No games for me. I've been busy but also haven't been in a game-playing mood lately so have just taken a little break. But I think I'll start a Nancy Drew game soon, and I have several I haven't played yet. That sassy girl detective can usually pull me out of my doldrums, lol.

Re: Dark & Eerie Games Thread
Just popping in to say hi to you all. I haven't played anything lately. It was report card time, and now it's finally break time. However, I've had a rotten cold for about three days now, so I haven't been much fun at all. Hopefully everyone here is happy and healthy again.
BTW... I thought I'd miss carbs a lot more than I do, but once you get over the initial cravings, it's not so bad. I had to get serious and do some major lifestyle changes right around this time last year, and have lost a significant amount of weight, so it has been worth it. For those of you still struggling (and I do too, off and on) lots of and from me to you!
