Dark & Eerie Games Thread

So dumb. Like, seriously dumb. Like I had to use the Hint button about 50 times because it made no sense... that kind of dumb. It started out normal (for an ERS game) and then it took a left so far into wacky land that I had no idea what to do next. I'm an experienced player, and I get the normal game illogical logic, but this... this was something else. 

Sounds FABULOUS esme!! Can't wait to try  it! 

Give it a try, Justie. I'll bet you will be able to tell just about when I lost it with this game. LOL It's bonkers!

Illogical is my pet peeve in games, *especially* when we're talking about something that defies the laws of physics, would never work in a million years type of illogical!

Illogical... like gluing a scorpion so that you could milk its venom with tweezers? That sort of illogical? 

Or... carrying around a yeti once you've freed it... you know, just in case? 

You are very brave carrying around a Yeti.    I've seen those Yeti sci-fi movies--
not something I would carry around!

Apparently I'm quite the BA. Hefting a yeti is good for the solar-plexus.

Something that really irks me in a game is illogical solutions, and there were two instances of actions we were supposed to take that were SO unbelievable that I was literally exclaiming outloud. Things like, "You want me to do WHAT??" and "Excuse me? That would never ever work, not even if you tried for a million years!!"

... and yes, I still remember exactly what these things were, even though I played the game over two years ago!

and from my Nightmare on the Pacific review:

If you're going to give us a horrifying real-life story, make it friggin' realistic! Because I was focused on the reality, physics and logic kept butting in to make me say, "What the hell?!"

and I remember these issues, too, even though I played the game THREE years ago!  You want a rant?  I can give you a rant!    Just say the word and I'll tell you all about it!

I think it's great that we all battle illogic in the games. The best part is that what bugs one of us, is no big deal to another, and vice versa. I remember loving The Maze! 

I generally am suspicious of ERS games though, and I should have known better, but I decided to give them a shot again. Not a good decision it seems. LOL 

Oh well, live and learn and play stupid games!

I think I gave up on that series before that one. Now I'm intrigued... not enough to buy it and play it, mind you, just intrigued. 

OK, Urban Legends: The Maze.  Hey, I'll give you visuals, even! 

Here we go, skip to 5.02 minutes:



See that box?  We're supposed to be able to use a magnet to bring the key up to the lock using a piddly little magnet. Really?   That glass must be pretty darned hefty for us to not just be able to smash the darned thing, so I seriously doubt our magnet would work.  Oh I know, maybe it's a magical magnet, able to work through bulletproof glass... And what about the laws of physics?  Even if we had a magnet powerful enough to move that key, we would NEVER be able go get it to go INTO the lock properly!  Seriously??  We're going to be able to move the key UP the side of the glass and someone get the point of it inside the locking mechanism??  Yeah right, that's going to work   Excuse me, not even if the lock was on the bottom of the box would that work.  MAYBE if the key was already in the lock we could use the magnet to turn it, but even that is iffy!

Second up is this; skip to 10.05 minutes:



We're supposed to use a gun to turn that valve up there.  You heard me right!  A speeding bullet is supposed to turn a freaking valve???  What the hell were these devs thinking?!?  How in the hell is that supposed to work, and even if by some miracle it DID work, the ricochet would be INCREDIBLY dangerous!

So,   was that ice the valve was behind?  I know I played the game,  but do not
remember it,  tho I did like it.
We were suppose to shoot a valve behind ice?  

It's been a very long time since I played that one. I always hoped they would come out with a sequel, but alas... they have not. 

And yet, I will bet you that next year ERS comes up with some crackpot sequel to whatever that Midnight Call mess was that I just played.

We're not even elves! We're looking for our sister who got sucked into a portal and somehow Pandora's box made her evil and Santa knows about Pandora's box but couldn't get a friggin' elf to fix his own piano and then there's some Snow Queen and her random Stud Muffin who know an inventor who adopted my evil sister and there's a yeti. And a dragon. 

And apparently a whole lot of trippin' developers. 


BTW: I know you meant that we were game-playing elves, but if we had been supposed to be actual elves, that might have made more sense! 

Games are supposed to be surreal aren't they? Isn't reality what we're getting away from? 

Love to gripe about it too, though!

I never even mentioned the hyperactive snowman helper who shows up about a third of the way through the game, did I? 

He hops around for attention more than my boxers do for treats. 



He is absolutely, utterly useless.
And annoying.

I'm another one who really liked Urban Legends: The Maze and wished there was a Part 2.

I have finished Graven: The Purple Moon Prophecy and must say, it's a very good game! Bravo, Orchid Games, for a storyline and gameplay that held my interest throughout the entire game!

Yay, Midnight Mysteries: Ghost Writing due out this week!! I love this series even after the developer change.

The other CE (according to BF's FB site) will be Revived Legends: Titan's Revenge and I did enjoy the first game.
