I own many of these but very few are worth the extra cost as far as I am concerned.  Most of the extras, for me, are advertising - screen savers, wall paper, even the music in a way is advertising so why should I have to pay extra for that?  If I had an MP3 player or something similar and liked to listen to game music, that would make a CE more worth it to me.  Most have good music but I have no interest in listening to it outside of the game.  I have no interest in wall papers, screen savers, or concept art.

I purchase CEs for two reasons - I love the game and want to play NOW and/or I want the extra game play.  I must say, however, that extra game play is often minimal but even then, it does add to the game.  If it is a good game I want to play more.

If I like a CE but decide to wait for the SE, I usually do not buy.  This is because I have already played an hour of the game which maybe half or even more of the game.  I remember that but not quite enough so I would have to replay the first hour.  Whether I replay the first hour or not, the game is "old" and not worth paying for as I then feel i am not really getting a "complete" game but rather just an extra chapter or two.

I can wait to play the game, so I buy the SE. It seems that the little bit of extra game play is not worth the price of another game. I just wish that more developers would put the extra gameplay in the middle of a game and not cut off the end for the SE buyers.

Yes, Some of the Devs include what I think is material important to the story, in the "Extra Play" of a CE. This is poor practice IMO. It is, however, good marketing. Some times even a CE will seem to cut a game short. I just played both entries in the "Shadow Wolf" series. Both are CEs and seemed to cut the game short as soon as I "solved" it. I felt that the ending sequence in the first game (I think, or maybe the 2nd?) was cut short even to the point of just cutting off the music. It ended so abruptly I was left startled and I felt my eyebrows rise rapidly. The extra game play was good but probably added little and was not necessary.
