An Alt Vine is an alternative to the standard Vines you can get from the Cave or Abandoned Page.
Alt Vines are rare, and hard to get, and you only have a chance at them by breeding your Vines - you can't catch them in the Cave.
See Riddick's hatchling, how the chest is a golden colour. And the flowers are golden yellow (instead of red). He'll grow up like this.
Congrats on your first Alt, Riddick
EDIT:
You can also get Alt Blacks the same way, as opposed to standard Blacks.

LOVE my chooks! Got one dragon looking after them, ready to defend against dragons who may think they look like food!
This one was a fluke. I was in the cave (no, really?! you never go there!
) and there was this that looked more like achicken egg than a pygmy, just sitting there - I expected it to go in a microsecond, but no, was still there. So I casually clicked on it, and YAY!, it is a chicken egg!!
As for the new sosad emoticon, you'll keep - all of you!
Am I really that miserable? I thought I was pretty happy?!
