IF I WERE TO LIVE WITH A DRAGON...
... IT WOULD LOOK LIKE THIS!
Yup! Unbelievable though it sounds, this critter's cousin has been living in the cats' play room, for I don't know how long! There were no signs of injury or a struggle, it would have been an easy climb for him to come in, and there was suitable food and water in the room - not to mention heat, important for a lizard in the dead of winter.
He could have been there for weeks, for all I know, seeing the cats were paying him no attention whatsoever! And he showed no fear of me at all. Even when I picked him up and took him outside. He's called a Shingle-Backed Blue Tongue, and is the smallest of that type of lizard. (Native Australian, most of them harmless, for a change!)
My little dragon was a bit smaller than this fellow (didn't think to take a photo, did I?) and very lethargic, but otherwise fine! He is now resident in my front garden, where he will find plenty of snails and not be pestered by my cats or any of the local fauna (like snakes), that are less likely to come around to my place than across the road in the 'official' bush.
Hopefully, he'll stick around and make lots of other little dragons as spring finally comes this way.
