La Rafle, also known as The Round Up, is a French movie from 2010, which is subtitled in English.
IMDb describes it as "A faithful retelling of the 1942 "Vel' d'Hiv Roundup" and the events surrounding it."
This is the story of how Hitler's atrocities reached into France. The French literally rounded up and handed over their Jewish population, citizens and refugees, alike.
It was difficult to watch, as all films of this genre are. This is history at its most disturbing, and a piece of history that I knew nothing about. I never knew that the French had a part in so many innocents' deaths.
It is upsetting to be faced with the cruelty that the human race is capable of, but turning a blind eye will not erase the atrocities of the past... nor the ones being committed every day. Look up Rwanda or Syria. Genocide is attempted all too often, and for ridiculous reasons.
I digress, as usual, so back to the topic at hand. I can only liken this film to Schindler's List, touching and heartbreaking, and not to be ignored.
