Why isn't, say, an evil butcher, the ultimate creepizoid?

Because clowns are supposed to make kids happy and laugh (that's not the origin of clowns, but it is the modern version).  Anyway, when you take something that is supposed to be fun and safe for kids and then make it a source of terror (Pennywise, I'm lookin' at YOU!) it creeps kids out.  Then we're scarred for life.

Evil butchers, on the other hand, are supposed to be creepy and chop you up while you sleep.  So no surprise there.

     Smile

Scarily, that all makes sense lol  Belly laugh Pennywise was a spectacular villain btw, I agree.

By your definition, I'd have to say that roller coasters were my "scarred for life" childhood fear. HATE them still...

    CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW    Wub

Sleepy Hollow---he made me laugh,  especially his reaction when the mouse ran across the floor.     Mouse pbbt

Sweeney Todd----would turn a meat lover into a vegetarian

    Dark Shadows--not my favorite

Alice in Wonderland and Corpse Bride---loved them both.

There was an earlier one he was in where he had a daughter who was kidnapped.
He was told that he had so many hours to kill the female Governor ?   or they
    would kill his daughter.
I watched that all the way through years ago before I knew who he was and I
did enjoy him in that.   Nick of Time

Secret Window---he was good in that one.   That had twists and turns and he was
    convincingly creepy.

Dead Man--A western movie where he gets into heaps of trouble.   Has Lance
Henriksen in that one.   Good movie.

    Benny and Joon.

Ok.....I'll stop with the movie reviews!!!    HA!

Oh Luvto, I could continue.  But I won't.  Depp is such an incredible character actor.  What I love so much about him is that he is not the same in every movie he is inThe Tourist with Angelina Jolie is also quite good.

I'm looking forward to the one he's filming now, Black Mass... but for reasons of  my own.

I like the line where she says to him  " 20 million dollars worth of plastic surgery and that's
     the face you choose? "
    "Don't you like it?"
    "It'll  do"

I thought they were good together.

Have you seen her in Maleficent?    Very,  very  good.

esme--Black Mass?   What is that suppose to be about?   And who is in it that has
you all  doe-eyed and dreamy?   OH!

Depp plays mob guy Whitey Bulger and my dreamboat is Benedict Cumberbatch... AKA Sherlock who plays his brother Billy, a Boston politician.

It's filming in Boston as we speak.

Depp is practically unrecognizable in his makeup in this one. Just wow! EEK!

Whitey Bulger??   Wow!!   He really would have to go through some make-up change
    for that!
We used to have a bus driver named Whitey.   Teased him that he was a wanted man.
Made him feel less lonely.      Belly laugh

And THAT is why Johnny Depp is my absolute most favorite actor.  He is totally okay making himself unrecognizable - he becomes his role.  That transformation is incredible!

Benedict Cumberbach is to Sherlock Holmes what Colin Firth is to Mr. Darcy.   Wub

Benedict Cumberbatch renders me incapable of coherent speech. He is dreamy and his voice alone makes me melt into a puddle. Seriously. This man could read the phone book and it would be steamy.

OK, so there's a terrible thunderstorm (which I love but the dog hates, so no sleep for me) ... so I started playing
    Stray Souls:  Dollhouse Story
I'm barely out of the tutorial, and so far I can say this one is earning
     EEK!  EEK!  EEK!  EEK!  EEK!
for the creep factor from me.  I've about jumped out of my skin more times than I want to admit!  But it isn't that difficult, at least not yet.  Very sparkly, even on expert mode.  I'm kinda okay with the ease of the game, though, because I'm not lying about the creep factor.  The Fright demo has nothing on this one so far.

    TERRIFYING.  THE CLOWN IS TERRIFYING.

and you gotta be kidding me:

THIS, Justie, THIS is why people are afraid of clowns.  Because they are NOT all cute and happy looking.  They look like psycho murderers.

AARGHH!  (I didn't whisper that.  Oops.  He might find me.  Don't tell him I am hiding in the closet.)

I told y'all clowns are scary!

The Dollhouse game is finished.  I considered starting the sequel, but I am too scared.  I am a scaredy cat and I own it.  Man oh man that was the creepiest game I have played in a l-o-n-g time!

Yes I am still whispering.  But I have my attack kitten with me.
