Satinav & Memoria Group Play-throughs? Empty Satinav & Memoria Group Play-throughs?

Post by genkicoll Tue Jul 01, 2014 10:07 am

We will be starting a group play-through of Memoria <--(game thread) on July 15th.

Anyone is welcome to join in at any time Satinav & Memoria Group Play-throughs? 3026146359

    Here's how it works:

The people who are participating come to this thread to discuss the game.  Anything about the game:  The graphics, sounds, story, impressions, and cries for help.  The only thing you need to remember is that we don't want to ruin any surprises or storyline specifics for those who haven't played yet, so please hide this kind of information!

There are two ways to do this:

Use spoiler tags, which look like this [ spoiler]Type your spoiler here.[ /spoiler] (without the spaces inside the brackets.  When you do it right, it will look like this once you submit your post:
    Spoiler:

You can click on the Preview button (to the left of the Send button) if you want to be sure you've done it right before submitting.

Change the color of your text.  To do so, highlight the text whose color you want to change, click on the button at the top of the reply box that looks like nine little colored squares, and choose the color you want.  Once you post, the background will be a light blue color, so keep that in mind ;)

The goal is to have fun playing this together, whilst still having the information in the thread be helpful for anyone who comes along later -- even if it's a year from now!

If you need help, try asking in the thread (don't forget your spoiler tags!) before resorting to the Walkthrough.  I much prefer getting hints to actually being told exactly what to do, and that's the beauty of a group play Sunny

One last thing, and that is that I highly suggest playing The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav before we start this new group play, since Memoria -- in part -- continues the story.

PLEASE SEE THIS POST for information on controls and gameplay options.

Overreaction  I forgot to buy Chains of Satinav during GOG's summer sale.  I left it and the Might and Magic bundle in my cart.  AAARRRGGGHHH.  And this only matters because I'm super nerdy about playing things in order.  Woe is me, oh woe is me.  I spent all my gaming dollars.  And I want the Guild bundle they have for sale now.  What am I going to do?!?   Cry

It's not YOUR fault, Genki!   Hug

It's mine fault!  What is so awful ... I thought about the Memoria group play, thought about the fact I never played Chains of Satinav, decided NOW is a good time to fix that, put the game in my GOG cart ... and promptly forgot those crucially important thoughts.     Oops!

Just getting some information set up for when we start our group play Sunny  No worries, I'm not starting without y'all!

When you enter the game, you'll see two options:  New Game and Main Menu.  I recommend going to the Main Menu and checking out the options.  There are a lot to choose from, but the most important are probably the first three you'll see:  Subtitles and Hotspot Indicator are chosen by default, but if you want the third option, Combination Helper*, you'll have to check the box, yourself.

The fourth icon down (on the left) on the Options page is what looks like a joystick.  Click on that to see what all of the controls are.  Because that's just the kind of gal I am, I'll copy that info here for you so you don't have to look in-game Wink

Left-click - Executes assigned action; selects item from your inventory
Mouse wheel - Browse you inventory.  Clicking highlights all relevant objects if Hotspot Indicator is enabled.
Right-click - Examines items in your inventory or hotspots; returns items to inventory if nothing specific selected.

Esc - Opens main menu; skips cutscenes
T - Switch between "Voice only," "Subtitles only," and "Voice and subtitles."
M - Mutes or resumes sound
    F1 - Opens/closes the quest log
    F5 - Opens/closes savegame menu
    F8 - Opens/closes settings menu
F9 - Quicksave (will overwrite previous quicksave)
    F10 - Opens quicksave
F11 - Screenshot.  A screenshot will be saved in your user folder
Space bar - Shows hotspots on screen (if enabled) and will pause cutscenes

*When Combination Helper is turned on, it will highlight items that can be combined with the item you are currently holding

You really should play Satinav before even looking at Memoria, lest you spoil some of the plot of the first game.

Haven't had time to start yet -- 3 of the 4 of us are sick, and trying to pack on top of it... Sweat drop

Well, then, it looks like I need to grab Satinav and play it since I haven't.  Guess that puts the starting date off for me, too.   Cry

So sorry to hear everyone is sick, Genki!  (I found a get well smilie but I can't get it to upload.)

All right, let's postpone this long enough to make sure everyone can play Satinav, first!

Justie, don't worry about Satinav -- remember that I added some gameplay basics to my review, and if you get stuck, just ask in the game thread!

I don't have Satinav, and I just discovered that I don't have Memoria either!  OH!
I thought I purchased it during the recent sale but the order apparently didn't go through and I never thought to check.  Shock Cry

I can't spend $40 for 2 games (their normal pricing at GOG) so will wait for the next sale... hopefully soon!! Meanwhile DH and I have been playing Broken Sword 5.  Smile

I'm picking up Gray Matter today for $3.99 (already have it on disc and never played it, but truthfully I prefer downloadable editions). It's their 60% off special til Friday. But I'll check to make sure the order goes through this (and every future) time!

I can't buy Satinav until it's on sale again, either.  Despite my complete and utter failure at sticking to my game budget when games are on sale, I have success at ignoring games I want when they are list price.  Perhaps if I could avoid games on sale that I only mildly wanted, I could pay full price for games I really want without feeling guilty.  But no.  That does not seem to be the way of things.

::c'mon GOG, put Satinav on sale.  pleeeeeease?::

*genki I found some cool "please" emoticons but I do not know how to get a picture to upload from my computer.  help?  **i'm one of esme's idiots**

GOG listened to my plea!  Satinav is on sale for $3.99 until tomorrow.  I now own it.    Happy bounce

Should we do a group play of it, then Memoria after Gray Matter?

We had postponed the group play of Memoria because so many of you hadn't played Chains of Satinav yet.  With so many great deals on Daedalic games at GOG right now (CLICK HERE), maybe we can get back on track to doing our Memoria play-through!

Hi everyone, I am writing a little here, but I often read the forum.
A long time I would play with Memoria, but I did not take because it is not localized, in my language. I hope the group started playing, I will follow. I played Chains of Satinav beautiful story beautiful drawings.

I would be willing to host a Chains of Satinav group play through in March (preferably beginning 9th March) and a Memoria play through in April ... But I have never played either game so I'll be discovering answers with everybody else.

Pippi, that sounds great.  Let's set up CoS to begin on March 9th, and Memoria for some time in April.  I'll be happy to set up the threads to get us started (though will wait 'til it's time to start.)

Hey Justie - I'm pulling you away from those Dragons to join us.  Fo' reelz I'm dragging you outta that cave!  It's going to be a fabulous  Party We need you too!  Start looking for me to Sherlock  through that cave to find you and drag you to the surface.   Elk grin
