I have a theory. There are so many of them - dozens and dozens - that it feels like a game-generated flood, not individuals. So. Why would the game flood the cave with eggs of a particular type? What if these eggs were needed to grab/breed whatever the next (June) new releases are? Is only 2 days to June!
I think, if I ever get a free egg slot again, I might pick one up on spec!

It's purple on top of black and grey - the one there is a bunch of in the abandoned cave. But must wait for cave to come back online.

1. They are about to discontinued them. We will all have collector's item.
2. They are going to change into something different when they hatch. Cool! We'll have a rare dragon!
3. They will be needed to breed a new kind of dragon. Cool! We are one step ahead!
4. Is a flood because they have become some kind of endangered species - ie. the numbers have dropped dangerously low for their ecology. Cool. Have an uncommon breed. And none of us had one before, so no duplication.
