I wanted to be sure everyone sees this, so I'm putting this in its own post:
When you post or reply (not fast reply), you can check or UNCHECK the box that says "Notify me when a reply is posted."
To have it automatically NOT notify you, do the following:
Sorry about that! I looked in the Admin panel, and can't find a way to keep it OFF as the default!

- Click on the Profile tab at the top of the page
- Click on the Preferences tab
- Scroll down 'til you see the "Always notify me of replies" and select the NO option
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Save
