Has anyone seen
Haven or
Psych? I was interested in checking those two out.
Y'all get to hear a story now... As you (probably) know, both of my children are on the autism spectrum, eldest being at the higher end. This story is about her.
Last night, I walked into the kitchen and playfully poked (softly!) my eldest in the side, at which time she jumped and SLAPPED my hand, telling me not to do that. Of course, this did not go over well with me.
"You
hit me! Why did you do that? All I did was touch you!"
From there it deteriorated into her yelling and putting her finger in my face, telling me not to raise my voice at her.
Uh, excuse me?
Yeah, that didn't go over well. In the end, I walked away (though not before grounding her from the telephone,) and my husband had a talk with her about being disrespectful to her mother. I was not angry -- this is not her usual behavior -- I just knew that she wasn't going to listen right then.
I suspected I knew the cause, and sure enough, it's because of NCIS. She is VERY anxious about Ziva leaving the show, and anxiety causes her to act out. She can't help it, though that does not excuse her behavior.
This isn't the first time NCIS has caused a meltdown at my place. When Ducky had his heart attack, she burst into tears and was upset for WEEKS! There have been other instances, as well. Poor girl
So why do I allow her to watch the show? It's not only family bonding time, but also a good time for life lessons. Things don't always go as we planned, bad things happen to good people, x-situation would never happen in real life, another situation COULD very well happen, and she needs to be more careful...
*sigh*
