As a child one of the three channels we could get always had episodes of Star Trek on it. Growing up with Star Trek I learned things like "never wear a red shirt" and that Bones can heal rocks.
Why am I bringing up Star Trek? It's because Galaxy Quest is a marvelous spoof of Star Trek and its actors. It has Tim Allen who plays the intrepid Commander Jason Nesmith. Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman as his faithful crew and friends; with Tony Shalhoub as the unshakable engineer of the intergalactic spaceship NSEA Protector.
But this isn't as much as a story about an alternate universe version of Star Trek as much as it is about the actors who discover much about themselves when they are faced with "others" who believe in the TV Show.
For 17 years they've been surviving off of the reruns and the fan conventions where they endlessly sign their autograph away as they tolerate some of the most annoying fans you can imagine. Then in walk the "Thermians"!
Now things change for them and we get to go along for the ride. So remember "Never give up, never surrender!" Once you watch this classic you'll understand.
