WHAT'S THE YOLK (Chicken, F)

There was nothing immortal or even unusual about What's The Yolk. She was just an ordinary hen taking care of her chick. 

But Yolk was caught up in historical moments beyond her field of thought, and witnessed events that meant nothing to her, but which were fundamental elements of a revolution in thinking throughout her world. 

She cares only that she and her chick are safer in the Volcanic Regions under the protection of Trans Lucia Materna, than they could ever have been on their own.

CHICKADEE DANDY (Chicken, Frozen)

It must be very boring to live without dragons for friends, Chickadee believed. Only dragons are big enough and agile enough to take him flying with them like his friends from the flocks of Crimson Flare pygmies did.

He wished he a dragon. Or anybody except an immortal joke, unable to grow up or grown old, stuck forever in this satanic limbo.

NAMELESS TEIMARR (Teimarr, Frozen)


Dragons in the Coastedge Woods have been puzzled quite a long time, a century or two at least, about the poor empty shell found on the coast.

It had clearly been bitten by a vampire, but that species no longer hunted in Penddraig or the Dragon Caves. Not since the defeat and almost extinction of their kind in the last and famous battle in the Northwestern Desert that ended the Vampire Wars. 

There little hatchling was totally traumatize by being first bitten, then hatching, and then abandonment that was his treatment with his short life with Tru Dru. Luckily, Trans Lucia Materna was not far behind Dru, and came to his rescue, little knowing that the nameless one was causing so much mystification at the opposite end of the island.

BABY FIREFOX (Ember, Frozen)


At least one of the orphaned offspring enjoyed their home in relative comfort. It may not match the sense of love and kinship, but the cave Trans Lucia Materna had found for them was warm and dry, high up so they would know if trouble was coming.

But Firefox never forgot for a moment the difference between his life before and his strange existence now. He hated every mouthful of dragon blood he took, but he had no other means of survival.

"What would his father have done?", he often asked himself.

TINY SHYLEAF (Mint, Frozen)


Trans Lucia Materna knew long before she arrived there, that the scene would be almost unbearable. She knew that cloying smell of dragon blood and flames. But even knowing what was coming could not insulate her from the horror of the slaughterhouse scenes that confronted her.

Mint Dragons are a particularly peaceful breed, and the Shyleaf Clan was even more timid than the rest. They were a kind and gentle dragon, which many other breeds appreciated for their soothing effect on anyone's nerves. 

Before her lay the whole tribe, torn apart in a frenzy of violence such as Materna had never imagined possible. This was not just the blood thirst that her poor hatchlings suffered through, but an expression of such rage! Well, there was nothing she could do for these poor dragons, but their blood would come in handy for her brood. A mother dragon must do what she must to protect her hatchlings.

Before she could do more than think about it, a tiny cheep, hesitant and high pitched, came from beneath one of the fallen dragons. It was a survivor of the massacre! A little hatchling turning fear-filled eyes towards her. Will you look after me or eat me?, they seemed to say.

So she became another of the strangelings in Materna's nest, although she never once uttered a word.

LITTLE PINKIE (Carmine Wyvern, Frozen)

Little Pinkie's arrival at the Northernmost peaks of the Volcanic Regions was as mystifying as the rest. Trans Lucia Materna had seen the chaos and carnage left behind the Vampires as they travelled north, but she'd never actually seen one.

But that night she got to confirm all the stories about their fierce looks, their large wingspan and their strength - she was astounded though, at his behaviour. A large flapping and crying announced the arrival of a monstrous Vampire, a tiny hatchling clasped between his claws, and 3 bullock carcasses held in place by his powerful jaws. He dropped the carcasses before her feet and carefully put down his little parcel of terrified Carmine dragon, and left, saying as he did, "let them feed."

HARVEST EGG

First, let's meet the parents...

Gold N Harvest and Augustine Harvest, clearly of the same great lineage, are not of equal status. Gold's line of the family will "just not do". And Augustine's line were considered "stuck up prigs". So their nights of passion have resulted in a child who will find no love and acceptance on either side. 

Brimstone dragon, Nanny She Oak, being well-informed, as most nannies somehow seem to be, found a solution for Augustine's hatchling, and some problematical family business of her own. On her return she would go about the business of finding her charge a more suitable mate.

NANNY SHE OAK (Brimstone, F)

On Nanny's return to Augustine Harvest in the Desert Rim Forests, she would have to get her story straight of the mythical land across the Great Sea, of that you can be sure! Poor wee egg, unwanted by all. Doomed to misery and destitution, if Nanny failed to convince everyone to play their part. But she would not fail.

So she set off in the direction of the Volcanic Regions to the North. There, her distant cousin, Yellowcake, lived alone and, if the truth be told, bitter. Childless and friendless. Nanny was preparing to change all that.

First stop, the comfortably warm and cosy nest young Gerode had set up for himself. On her last visit to see her, Nanny had noted the wistful look in his eyes when Yellowcake began her ruminating rhymes, 'to musical accompaniment', as Nanny liked to call it. 

Convincing Gerode to go with her, (because she needed "Gerode's strength" to carry up supplies for the egg), was easy. This was his chance to bring himself to the notice of the beauteous dragon herself. 

Next came Trans Lucia Materna,who needed quite a bit more persuading to get her to bring her charges with her to Yellowcake's cave, for no other purpose than to fill it with the sound of hatchlings at play. She would wear Yellowcake's objections down, oh yes, of that you could be sure!

And what time, exactly, is it in the real world? Back when I wrote that and resolved to get some sleep, it was only 2.30am. 

Positively responsible and civilized compared to your hours. 

And are you waking up or going to sleep anyway?

How the heck would I know what time it is??? just came off an 8 hour that became a 10 hour and discovered we're to be daylight saving'd this weekend and I wasn't real sure what day it was anyway.
Going to try sleeping now........

NO LONGER HOMELESS (Harvest, M)

The little Harvest egg spawned by Gold N Harvest and Augustine Harvest turned out to be a boy dragon. He loved his wonderful mix up clan that was his adopted family - even the vampire hatchlings. 

But No Longer Homeless was not so keen on the trek down to the forested region to stock up on provisions. Most of all he loved watching the Pyropes fly in their aerial voyages across the land they said was called Penddraig and held thousands of dragons of all kinds of breeds. If only he could fly, he could see these wonders for himself, and how much easier it would be for him to get enough to eat!

And now that he had matured to adulthood, he wondered what he should be doing about making plans for the breeding season. He had no idea how Harvests go about the business of finding a mate. But it seemed to be a good idea to be down in the forests, away from the infernal heat of the Volcano Regions. Should he try to find a Harvest mate? 

That was when he saw her! The most beautiful Harvest dragon he had ever seen. Okay, she was the first Harvest he had seen. Still, she was clearly perfect in every way. Strong heavy thighs and massive haunches. Layers of fat, fodder for the lean winter months. Forelegs capable of ripping the head off any small creature if she was hungry. Well, he certainly couldn't simply walk up to her and introduce himself. Gerode had taught him the way it was and had ever been. It is a male's responsibility to attract a female for a mate. Males must remain supplicant and protector of the female who chooses him. He must never forget that she had chosen him.

So. How to impress such a comely mate? Well, she is certainly hungry, perhaps a little food by way of an introduction? No Longer began a campaign to woo his lady love, leaving presents of food ahead of her in the forest that between them they would completely wipe out this season.

All this time, the Harvest female had watched these gestures and accepted the offerings he left for her. But she was really no more than amused. Who had brought up this simpleton? Could it really be he didn't know that to court another Harvest dragon, you show your capacity to eat - to store food, not supply it?

GERODE (Geode, M)

Gerode glowed with happiness! Every day, once all her needs had been met, he was permitted to sit within hearing range of his darling Yellowcake's wonderful melodies. Those strange little poems that hummed and rattled around inside her mind and drove other dragons literally crazy. They brought such a burgeoning swell of love and awe in this youngster's heart, he found he simply couldn't live without them. He fantasized they were for him alone.
   
He'd believed once that he could never win such a prize as Yellowcake, but his chance to make himself useful to her came when Nanny She Oak came to see him about a tricky problem. If he and Nanny could convince Trans Lucia Materna and the orphans with her to come with them to visit Yellowcake, she might be able to trigger the dormant maternal instinct Nanny was sure was there in Yellowcake's heart.

And it worked. With the ever-present assistance of Gerode himself, the new-born orphaned Harvest Egg grew to maturity as an adult, 
No Longer Homeless.

How he loved to drink in his queen's belching and her sulfurous odours! How great were her throat pouches! Watching her eat the charcoal he brought to her from the volcano's heat brought him near to tears!

Gerode knew he was the happiest dragon alive.

Earth quake kills 5 eggs, unleashes the minions of hell, before kept in place by some old-forgotten magic spell.  But the hell dragons are running scared too! Seems everyone both above and below the earth were in peril of a new - or a very old? - threat.

Cheesy refugees + hatchlings. Dinos. Followed by all manner of dragon, all uncharacteristically cooperating to escape the menace. Overcrowding at Trans Lucia Materna's spot, too much excitement for the undead hatchlings. She organises everyone to move on, with groups that can help each other suffer the necessary privations. 

Larger dragons carrying the hatchies of all breeds, and sometimes the adults as well. The livelier breeds ranged ahead, seeking the best route in the direction of the wilderness, south of the ridge, where few had ever been, but where all dragons knew there was plenty of room and food, and varying biomes, but also dangerous wild dragons.

Something drawing any magi-tenet to converge on Alpine Ridge. From summoners to guardians of N, to warriors of previous wars against Vamps. Even those few surviving humans, lacking in magic though they were, felt the pull.

Undine army & the GoNs. Spiteful crow's army of vampires.

Meanwhile. End of peaceful state held in place by the KayMac Concordat. Assassination of Emperor. By vampire? Or by the heir to the throne, who just happened to visit not a week after the death of her uncle. A lady with a sobering history of death and murder in her unique family history.

Body guards executed for failure to do their duty - they made no attempt to defend themselves, and refused to explain what had happened. Unlucky witness killed by the assassins. The water walkers blamed and executed, but many thought that they were patsies.

Agent 99 & 86 sent into the outlying volcanic islands, MIA.

Spice City was unprepared for the avalanche of refugees that started to come in from every direction. The desert dwellers demanded safe haven after being attacked by ??? in the north. Some of those living in the volcanic regions closer to the city came in with hair-raising stories of creatures from hell, and great lava flows into a massive rift in the earth.

The dragons of the CoastEdge Woods and the Desert Rim Settlement banded together, all differences forgotten, and even let Sanaa Ice guide them, as they pushed forward and upward towards what they hoped would be safer land above the waterfall and in the environs of the Temple Of The Moon. The Magenta Retinue changed course suddenly midway through their 'processing', much to the surprise of all the dragons of the court, except the Magis, for whom this entire mission had always been to get to the Temple in time to avert some of the chaos.

Historians mistake. The breeds normally in hostile contact with Black Teas, is Ridgewing. Because there had been the odd misunderstanding about BTs mistakenly eating a young RW, thinking it was a butterfly. Like the pretty insect, RWs were attracted to the scent BTs emitted, and often the young ones hovered a little too close, and got swiped as well. So was very unusual to see the two breeds living together in relaxed harmony. This is what Mister Mac saw and it was a revelation.

Huh doc? Not a clue... is it a lengthy complicated thing? I am always logged in, whethe I am here or not, so is easy for me. Everything is always just here...

Both my emails are locked today, apparently I changed the password but wrote it down incorrectly, and now I have to wait til my phone battery charges up - it's fried too - before I can get any messages. So that is why I found you here.

Good news for Gerode. Yellowcake refused Acid Drop, and Gerode's Despair was chosen by Noisome Fumes as a mate.

It becomes clear that the minions from Hell are as on the run as the other dragons, dedicated self-sacrificing individuals heroes attempt to find out who or what is the source of such terror. When finally some managed to return, after the loss of dozens, the truth was simply unbelievable. Folks figured the trauma of whatever had happened had caused this delusion. They were all very similar tales however.

Through the crack in the earth caused by the quake, beneath the very depths of the underworld, was a portal to another world. A world in which the humans ruled in untold numbers. Where there were no dragons - at all! There was no magic - at all. Nature had seemed so abused as to have lost all mana. There were not even any vampires or other undead. 

Uh oh! thought Justie, time to get out of Dodge. The tales were getting a little too much like the secret mutterings of that crazy dragon Human and her scrolls. She believed she may have found out the truth at last. The scrolls of dragons' lineage are magically inscribed at maturity, in a tattoo kind of thing. All dragons fiercely protected theirs instinctively. Human believed that the scrolls in some dragons - specific - contained the cipher she needed to decode her human parchment scrolls. this would give her the key to returning the world back to what it was before the "Calamity" It was imperative that she find these dragons, but how?

(Later, history shows that she was partially correct. Couldn't bring back the pre-calamity world, but her mutterings had created a schism between the world would become, without the Calamity. And that was what the dragons were accessing. The world had moved on both here and there.)

A great many battles were in store before the end result. The 3 Guardians Of Nature marshalled all the Avatars and the Summoners, using them to recruit and train 100s of dragons who would fight to keep magic and all it manifest in their world. Undines were a major source of fighters. Also Blacks, Dark Green spies, who would go as hatchlings are never be able to return, but pass the message on to 'runners', the fastest fliers.

Usually powerful Desipis were almost useless with their mana completely drained. Magis also stopped being able to teleport when they got too near the portal. Flying dragons of the smaller variety such as pygmies and ridgewings, canopy were good for swift sorties into the other world, but were drained quickly and had to return swiftly.
