I was just reminded of a story -- something that happened not all that long ago.

I was in Wal-mart one crowded day, and walking down the aisle, as one is wont to do whilst in a store Random Stories Tuzki-bunny-emoticon-007

Soon an older woman who was approaching from the opposite direction was directly in front of me, and we stopped walking so that we didn't run into each other.

We both stepped to my left.

    Stop.

We both stepped to my right.

    Stop.

Stepped back to the left, stopped and just looked at each other for a beat.

"Hug?" she asked, throwing her arms wide.

"Sure!" I said, grabbing her in a big hug. Hug

We both went on our ways, her saying thanks, and me grinning hugely from the encounter.

I still smile when I think about it Big smile

    from Sept. 28, 2012

Something very touching happened today, during an exchange between me and my father.

I was walking in front of him down a hallway, and we were exchanging some light banter.

"After we get this done, I think I'll find something to eat. Food is good, right?" Dad said.

"Yep, food is good... As long as you don't plan to eat me for a meal. Maybe a bit on the lean side."

    "Nah. You're like Mary Poppins."

I nearly stopped to turn and look at him. "Mary Poppins??"

"Yep," he said matter-of-factly, "practically perfect in every way."

I nearly missed a step, I was so surprised. I'm glad he couldn't see my face just then. Dad just doesn't say things like that. "That's... so sweet, Dad."

We arrived at our destination, and dad continued as if he hadn't heard me. "Except for your health, that's the not-perfect part."

What could I say, I had to agree, and the subject moved on to something else.

It may not seem like much, but my dad is not one to speak about his feelings. It meant a lot, and I wanted to get it written down so I wouldn't forget Random Stories 2981382511

And one more story for today:

A random memory popped into my head today - one where my eldest was just a little girl, maybe three or four. I cannot remember the exact situation, but I remember the conversation very well. Eldest was quite upset that she wasn't getting her way, and out come the words that every parent has to deal with at some point:

"You don't love me!" Random Stories M1502

My expression didn't change, though internally I was trying to figure out how to handle it, so instead of feeding the fire, I simply tossed my head and sniffed haughtily. "Yeah, you're right, I don't."

Oh my gosh, you should have seen her face! Random Stories 597951271The shock of my statement stopped her cold. "Wait, yes you do!"

"Yeeees, dear, of course I do - don't say such silly things!"

She was SO startled that she completely forgot that she'd been upset, and she never tried to pull the old "You don't love me" trick again! Random Stories 3595084446
