Genki - so sorry you are so sick. I have a friend with the same thing. I think I will share your alcohol info. She will have to go buy some I am sure but she will do anything to get some relief. She did go to the doctor so he may have given her the cough syrup with alcohol. I will check on that first!! Please take care of yourself.

Bad night last night. I've sprained something from coughing so much, and it makes it impossible to stay laying down when the coughing hits (too painful!) I got about 2 hours of sleep, total, then was off for the day. After I took the kids to school, I needed to go the the pharmacy in town... and was so sleepy that I had to pull over. Of course then I noticed that it was metered parking, and didn't feel like getting out of the car, so I went ahead and drove the next couple of miles to the pharmacy. I grabbed a towel from the back seat, used it to prop up my head, and fell asleep for 30 minutes, right there in the parking lot. . That's a new one for me!

By the way, my work computer is died night before last, and that would be why I've not been around during the day. Supposed to get it back tomorrow, but will I be at work? No idea! Hoping that the cough lessens, and that I can get some sleep tonight!

    *sigh* Silly face

Okay Genki - think it is time for a doctor visit. You have probably pulled a muscle, but you may have pleurisy. I had that once from coughing so much - very painful. I believe antibiotics are in order too. Did you get a flu shot? It really sounds like you have the flu. I know so many people with that terrible cough. Some have the flu, others don't but they are miserable. Isn't that homemade cough syrup - a tsp honey, a tsp lemon juice, a tsp alcohol??? Please take care of yourself!!! Worried mama here!! LOL

Thank you, volnole Wub I work for a doctor, and he has the same thing. Yesterday he told me, "The next time you want to share, remind me to say NO." I did have a flu shot, and while the cough has been really bothering me, I'm not actually miserable, anymore -- just sleep-deprived. I actually managed to get some sleep last night, so yay~! The pain in my gut will resolve itself eventually. I've sprained a rib from coughing before, but not this! haha

Koff, hack, wheeze, sneeze, but I'm actually getting better, lol.

Genki, know what you're going through - haven't been this sick for this long for a dog's age. Glad you were finally able to get some sleep and feel better today. I'm tracking right along with you - feeling almost
[i][u] human. You're made of sterner stuff than I am for sure, as I haven't stirred out of the house for at least a week (other than to jump into my car, drive to the end of my driveway for the mail, and back right up to the garage, all in my nightgown and robe, lol.) No wonder the neighbors want me committed! Happy bounce

This is the shortest amount of time I've spent on the 'net too. Wander in, see what everyone's doing, and close down the computer and rest. All just too, too exhausting, lol.

Hope you feel all better soon.

Homeopathic Cough and Throat Remedies. Secrets of Native American Medicine Women tee hee hee

You should always see a trained medical professional when truly and utterly sick. They know you and what works best for you if they are indeed a good healer and not just running you through a people mill. But modern medicine is called "the practice of medicine" because they don't know everything. And they sometimes forget that Mother Nature has a cure for everything if you know where to look. The following is some tried and true remedies Native Americans have been using for centuries. They don't replace the prescriptions your doctor proscribes, but when used in harmony with them, it all works better!

For sore, raw and/or scratchy throats:

You can go to the drug store and get those expensive cough/throat drops that the second they are gone the pain is back. That also is consuming a lot of processed sugar which is not good for you when your immune system is under attack. Nature has a better and less expensive solution. Peppermint, Wintergreen and Spearmint all have natural properties that not only sooth the throat but also things that attack what is making it sick and heals it to boot! Try getting some good old fashioned peppermint candy disks or candy canes. Be sure they are real peppermint or wintergreen and not the sugar free substitutes kind since those don't have real peppermint or wintergreen oils in them. Peppermint works best, but in a pinch wintergreen and spearmint can also work, just not quite as well. You will find that your throat will feel better for up to 30 to 45 minutes longer after the candy is gone. You will also find that your cold is subsiding and going away anywhere from 3 to 7 days faster than without them since the oils attack the infection/virus in your bloodstream and immune system.

Also modern medicine has found that the active ingredient in these oils can also make a persistent cough go away sooner, and have extracted it into Zinc drops. Follow the instructions on the packaging since these cannot be consumed like you do the peppermint candies or cough drops. When these are used in harmony with the candy and doctors prescriptions it can make a nasty cold and/or flu symptons dissappear many days sooner.

ok, now for the icky coughs....

this may sound icky but it really does work. Take an onion, preferably a valdelia (purple) onion, but the yellow ones work too but not as well, the white ones and scallions don't work at all. Slice it in half and skin it.
Put in a small flat dish saucer a small pinch (1/8th teaspoon) of baking soda mixed into 1/3rd cup clover honey.
Then put the half onion flat side down into the honey mixture.
Cover with a soup/cereal bowl or with loosely attached clingwrap, (it needs to breath a bit so don't make it airtight.) and leave sitting overnight (approximately 8 to 12 hours).
When ready take one to two tablespoons full of this every time your doctor or over the counter cough syrup says to take it. It not only gets the icky taste out of your mouth, but it soothes the throat and the active ingredients in the onion and baking soda make cough syrup work harder and better.
Take the other half of the onion and put in a brown paper bag and store in the vegetable bin in your refrigerator in case you need to make another batch before well again.
Always store onions and potatoes in brown paper bags that let them breathe since putting them in airtight containers that doesn't block the light makes them rot faster.

I often put this onion honey mixture into peppermint tea done hot.

A few words about herbal teas....

They are excellent boosters for whatever ails you and many of the herbal non-caffeinated varieties are chock full of things that are good for you. However, what most people don't know is that there are things that people put in their tea that cancels out all the medicinal qualities of herbal teas. Kind of like how you aren't suppose to have dairy products or alcohol with antibiotics, one cancels out the other making them inert.

So, never ever put any kind of sweetner into your herbal teas if you are drinking them for colds and flu. Sugar, sugar substitutes, fructose, sucrose, syrups and (unfortunately) honey all render your herbal teas just flavored hot water taking away all it's medicinal properties. And hot herbal teas helps push fluids that you need when you are sick, particularly if you have fevers producing sweat or attempting to expel mucus build-ups. You need the fluids to help loosen mucus, replenish what fever sweats took out of you, and to flush the icky nastys from your bloodstream and system.

I know I said earlier that I put the onion honey in my peppermint tea, which sounds counter-intuitive to what I just said about sweetners in tea. But I also follow up the cup with the onion honey mixture with another cup that has no sweetners and no dairy in it so I get all the healing goodness.

Final bit of advice, if you are experiencing high fevers that produce a lot of sweat, or having dehydration problems due to stomach upset, then absolutely mix in some electrolights into your juice or tea. DO NOT go and get power drinks like gatoraide or powerup because even though they do have electrolights in them, they also have a boat load of salts/sodium which is extremely bad for you when you are sick. Salt/sodium/soy is bad for your period, but especially so when your system is under attack by infections or a virus when your immune system is compromised. Go get some non-flavored Pedialight instead and mix in 1/4 cup to every 8 ounces of other beverage you are consuming in every glass/cup until you are well. It gives the body what it needs to heal faster when dehydrated.

I never have a cold for more than 3 days, and I almost never get the flu anymore. I don't get flu shots because they make me sick instead of preventing illness. I keep a lean mean healthy body machine by eating right, regular exercise, no salt, no sodium, no soy, limited amounts of sugar or sweets (ok, i just gotta have chocolate now and then lol) and food rich in things that bolster a nearly non-existant immune system. I also take vitamins daily, ones that are Chelated or time released so my body has time to absorb them and not go down the toilet wasted money. Your grocery or drug store won't have these types, you have to go to a health food store to get vitamins that are Chelated (special process that allows the body to absorb them completely,) or time released (which also helps the body absorb them completely since it takes all day for them to be completely consumed.)

This should help folks feel better quicker and stay healthy if you follow the advice of thousands of years of Native American Medicine Women Healers.

    Get well soon! huggies

Howdy, all (what, no waving smiley? Oh well, this one will have to do )

I don't think I ever mentioned that I'm working 6 days a week now, and so, the Saturday updates (in the Games, Games, Games! thread) are usually going to be after 5PM... Unless I can't sleep, in which case I'll update early! I'm hoping to be able to sleep, to be honest Elk grin but either way, the update will get here when it gets here~

Been sleeping an awful lot lately, and today I'm loopy, but that's a lot more fun than being sleepy all the time. Wheeee~!

Well, it's good to be back! It's been ages since I was here. Glitch ended in December and then many things happened. I had a lot of problems with my aging laptop. I had been having more and more problems for some time. Now, at last, I have a new laptop. I purchased one with WIN7 Home Premium, the same OS as on the old laptop. I thought that would be easy but, in fact, it is different enough (why?) that I could just as well have gotten WIN8. Oh well. I had Cloud backup but that has been a pain that has been ongoing for two weeks and still no end to installing my old files on the new laptop. Had I known how really bad this backup was, I would have gone a different route. If and when I get my files back I am deleting my cloud account and will never use that company again. Apart from all of that, I have been on the hunt for a new MMO. I have tried several games and none are quite right. I am regularly playing Here be Monsters Beta at FB. It's an OK game so far but it is Facebook so that is an "incovenience". But, spring is here and lots of things are happening so I am busy and have little time to worry about finding another "Glitch". I hope to be back soon to read about new games. I am still buying/playing casual games at BFG.

I'm happy to see you, Brib! I didn't know you were having computer troubles, but I certainly understand... I just finally got my home computer back up and running after two weeks of not having it at all, and a couple of months of problems. SO glad to have my own computer back! I hope you get yours to where you want it soooon!

There's an upcoming MMO that has a really awesome-looking housing system, kind of like a combination of FaunaSphere and Glitch, only with some kick-ass graphics. Take a look HERE, and check out the second link (to youtube) to see the housing system video.

If you find something good somewhere, be sure to post! I wanna knoooow~!

I had to go and get some blood work done today, and the first thing the registrar asked was, "How old are you?"

A bit unusual (usually they'd ask for my birth date, not my age,) but I really didn't think too much about it.

    "Oh, I'm forty."

The woman stared at me for half a beat. "I was about to ask if you were seventeen!"

Oh how wonderful was that? hehe She was asking because she thought I was underage and not legally able to sign for myself! Belly laugh

It's like when they say, you don't look old enough to have children that old, or you don't look like you've had even one child. It's a little bit of an ego boost :D

Yes, it really is, in a good way Smile

I got a phone call this morning, saying that my sis was in surgery.  She has an infected kidney stone, and they have to implant a stint.  It's scary because she's on a blood-thinner for her heart valve, and they have to have the blood-level just right before they operate, lest she bleed to death Sweat drop  This is the same sis who went into kidney failure a few years back, so as you can imagine, I'm really worried about her.

    *sigh* :(

My sis felt much better after her surgery, and is out of the hospital now, though she will have to go back for at least one more procedure.  Everyone's sick here, including me, but the sun is shining, it's not too hot, nor too cold, and we're alive, so all is good.

:4th: to all of my friends here in the States, and happy day, period, to everyone else around the world! Sunny

I could not think of a game that would have fireworks graphics easily available, so you'll have to settle for the reminiscent-of-fireworks display that is showing from Elementals Silly face

    OMG... Mini meltdown, mini meltdown...

I just realized that in three weeks, we (in the medical profession) have to start using all NEW diagnosis codes!
    Overreaction

It's a conspiracy, I tell ya!  The damn companies aren't getting enough money off of us because we all know the ICD-9 codes, and as of October 1st, we have to start using the ICD-10 codes! Gah!

What this means is that all of the codes that reflect what a patient has been seen for -- codes we've been using for over twenty years -- are suddenly NOT ALLOWED (AT ALL!) as of three weeks from now.  Not only that, we can't use the NEW codes until Oct. 1st, which means NO transition period to learn the new stuff!  Again, meltdown time!   Ahhhhh...

*grumble, grumble* stupid companies *grumble, grumble*

Deep breaths... In... Out... In... Out...

No wait, not THAT relaxed, I'm still working!

<-- batting the currently extraneous thoughts away...

All right, go me... back to work...   YES!  That's the ticket!

Well, whatever... back to work, anyway.

That seems a harsh imposition on all of you.  So one day (9/30) you've using ABC123, then the very next day you have to transition to something like XYB498?

That does seem overwhelming.  But I know if anyone can keep all that in her head, it's you.  Did they give any reason for the change-over?

That is just so absurd! When we switched to a new 911 system, they gave us several weeks to "practice" in a dummy mode.  We actually were doing everything twice BUT we got use to the new call numbers, etc. before the effective date.  Seems like they could have done something like that.  Everybody better pay attention to their statements as I am sure most people are not as good as you Genki!! So sorry you are going through this.  heart flowers

I've been having a helluva time at work these past couple of days.  When it's not Medicare, it's United Healthcare, and they are driving me absolutely batty! Gah!  *grumble grumble, curse under breath* dirtywords

    *SIGH*

But a little levity from yesterday:

I was talking to my boss, and about to go outside, but as we were still talking, I simply rested my hand on the doorknob.

Distracted as I was by our conversation, it took me a second to realize that there was something moving under the tip of my ring finger...

    *gasp*  Ok, minor heebie-jeebies.

I removed my hand and bent down to see what was there, only to find...

    A BEE!  It's a bee, a bee!  It's a bee!  Heebie-jeebies, major HEEBIE-JEEBIES!

I'm jumping around and squealing, and my boss is looking at me like I'm crazy.  Meanwhile, the "bee" is still walking 'round and 'round the doorknob, as if it has no idea that I'm having a minor hissy.... or just doesn't care.

My boss calmly walks over and looks.  "Oh, it's a wasp, not a bee."

Even better!  One that can sting over and over again with no problems!

"Ah," he continued, "it's missing a wing, that's why it's not flying around."  He gathered it up on a magazine and let it go outside.

It's so unlovvvved, but at least I don't have to worry about getting stung!
