GOG.com is celebrating 6th birthday: different games up to 80% off each day!
For six years now, we've been building a library of great games of many genres, ages, and origins. One by one they were introduced to our catalog, publisher by publisher, developer by developer, series by series. We've started small, with just a couple dozen of games and a small crew of passionate gamers. Then we grew. Each year was exciting and brought excellent additions to our offer. This week, we'd like to go back to GOG.com history, taking you on a little trip down the memory lane. Each day we'll be taking some of the games we've released in a given year of GOG's existence, and offering them to you up to 80% off.

It was 2008 when we've launched our service to the public, offering a modest collection of golden classics that every PC gamer would instantly recognize, in other words: the Interplay catalog. During the first year in business (September 2008 - September 2009) we've released a nice number of exciting titles and you've reacted to them accordingly. Here's an enthusiastic review of Unreal Tournament 2004 from our user Sarge:

This game is a must have if you call yourself a PC gamer. It's fun, it's fast, and the amount of user content will blow your mind! There are mods that can turn the game into an RTS, a horror game, a space opera, and much more. I bought this game when it came out and it was a blast just by itself, but with the amount of stuff you can add to it, it's easy to call it a gaming platform. There are still many servers with many people playing today.

What was true back then remains true now: Unreal Tournament 2004 is still quite a popular choice for PC gamers looking for a multiplayer shooter. The year 2008/2009 brought many more exciting titles including Beyond Good and Evil, Heroes of Might and Magic 3: Complete Edition, or Jagged Alliance 2. You can grab them - and many more - up to 80% off - from our 6th Birthday Promo page, today!Today's featured games will remain discounted until Tuesday, September 9, at 9:59AM GMT so don't miss your chance! Come back tomorrow and continue the celebration, with a new set of memorable titles from yet another year with GOG.com! Finally, if you're in the mood to reminisce, think about taking part in our GOG-Game Video Contest. Thanks for being with us!

During the second year in business (September 2009 - August 2010) we continued our expansion making the number of our publisher and dev partners to go from 1 to 100. That's how we managed to secure some very strong catalog entries. By the end of the year we had an amazing classic adventure game offer! Here's what Clart, a member of our community, had to say about The Longest Journey.

This game probably has the best story of any game EVER! Beyond that it is also a very good point-and-click adventure game. [...] I think the background images are pre-rendered so a lot of them look pretty great for a 8-9 year old game (even without AA), even if you can't use AA and have to play with a blocky April(like me) the game is well worth it definitely one of the BEST $10 I EVER SPENT!!!

With Dreamfall Chapters coming soon to GOG.com, this is a good time to catch up on The Longest Journey, the beginning of this magical saga. The year 2009/2010 brought many more exciting titles including Master of Orion 1+2, Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, or Blood. You can grab them - and many more - up to 80% off - from our 6th Birthday Promo page, today!

Today's featured games will remain discounted until Wednesday, September 10, at 9:59AM GMT so don't miss your chance! Bless you, G! I hadn't noticed today's sale, and I probably would've missed it if I hadn't logged in here. So, thanks to you, I've picked up The Longest Journey and Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers. These were the two games I wanted, but I was holding out for a good sale!

Awesome, Lilac!  TLJ was really good.  We did a group play on it, so if you need any help or want to talk about it, the thread is HERE.

I haven't played Gabriel Knight yet, but it's on my to-play-soon list!

During the third year in business (September 2010 - August 2011) we decided to drop the "beta" notice from our main page. That's when we pulled our little infamous publicity stunt, pretending to shut down the service. We apologize, of course, but we've learned the hard way to always be straightforward with our community. Coming out of beta, we've managed to bring the Dungeons & Dragons games to GOG.com, giving our catalog a truly monumental RPG facade. Planescape Torment remains a community favorite up to this day. Here's an excerpt from a lengthy and enthusiastic review by Theexar:

The first words that come to my mind when I ask myself to describe Planescape: Torment are 'originality' and 'uniqueness'. [...] This game is not about saving the world. It's not about killing the main villain. It's about saving yourself. You don't have a name. [....] You should be dead, yet you live - you cannot die. You are immortal but it feels more like you are cursed to live rather than being blessed with eternal life.[...]

Planescape Torment was a truly landmark addition to our offer. We didn't stop there, though. The year 2010/2011 brought many more exciting titles including a highly anticipated DRM-free release of The Witcher and The Witcher 2 (the first premiere title on GOG.com!), Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (that we were able to update with the Alien Crossfire expansion later), or Dungeon Keeper 2. You can grab them - and many more - up to 80% off - from our 6th Birthday Promo page, today!

Today's featured games will remain discounted until Thursday, September 11, at 9:59AM GMT, so don't miss your chance! Come back tomorrow and continue the celebration, with a new set of memorable titles from yet another year with GOG.com! Finally, if you're in the mood to reminisce, think about taking part in our GOG-Game Video Contest. Thanks for being with us!

In the fourth year in business (September 2011 - September 2012) we've embraced A-tier titles and indie games, expanding our catalog beyond classics. The artist previously known as "Good Old Games" became "GOG.com", a one-stop butique for all your DRM-free gaming needs. Moving into the new territory we were able to present to you Legend of Grimrock, an old-school dungeon crawler nicely bridging the gap between classic design and new technologies. Our community member, TheJoe (who is not Marcin), called this title "Everything that a PC game should be", and wrote:

[...]Legend of Grimrock stands defiant in the face of the Cliff Bleszinski industry, proving that games can still be art. In a year where fans begged Double Fine and Brian Fargo to make a new game, Grimrock is a small piece in this new, exciting chapter of video game history. Video games are back. [...] Grimrock is slow paced, yet pressured. You are constantly sitting at the edge of your seat; there is no respite. Around the corner will be a trap, a monster, a clue, a reward. Every turn is a surprise for better or for worse. [...]

Legend of Grimrock convinced many of you, that indies and classics have much in common. That, however, did not stop us from further developing our back-catalog. The year 2011/2012 saw the release of such golden oldies as Thief Gold, Syndicate (later upgraded with the American Revolt add-on), or Ultima 7: The Complete Edition. You can grab them - and many more - up to 80% off - from our 6th Birthday Promo page, today!

Today's featured games will remain discounted until Friday, September 12, at 9:59AM GMT, so don't miss your chance! Come back tomorrow and continue the celebration, with a new set of memorable titles from yet another year with GOG.com! Finally, if you're in the mood to reminisce, think about taking part in our GOG-Game Video Contest. Thanks for being with us!

GOG.com's fifth year (September 2012 - August 2013) marked our expansion to a whole new gaming platform. Mac gamers were initially presented with a selection of 50 titles, old and new, majority of which became available for Mac OS X for the very first time! Our support for Apple PCs came just in time for FTL: Faster Than Light the turn-based, hard-core, roguelike-like indie phenomenon of the year. Here's a review from our user, Bryll:

It's everyone's dream (commanding a beat up space ship, keeping it running with a small crew as you schlep across the galaxy) and FTL gives it to you in a way no video game has done before. Instead of flying about with a joystick, in FTL you really do command the ship. Order your crew about, engage in combat, and make increasingly-tough decisions in a spectacular game that'll make you want to come back again and again for more. If you aren't on the edge of your seat within minutes (every time you play) then you're probably playing a different game.

Along with FTL: Faster Than Light our fifth year brought us quite a selection of successful indies like Don't Starve, or Hotline Miami. Oh, and we've made one of our own dreams come true, releasing System Shock 2. You can grab the games we mentioned - and many more - up to 80% off - from our 6th Birthday Promo page, today!

Today's featured games will remain discounted until Saturday, September 13, at 9:59AM GMT, so don't miss your chance! Come back tomorrow and continue the celebration, with a new set of memorable titles from yet another year with GOG.com! Finally, if you're in the mood to reminisce, think about taking part in our GOG-Game Video Contest. Thanks for being with us!

The sixth year of GOG.com, the year we've just now completed (starting September 2013) we will always remember for the sheer amount of awesome things we managed to pull off. We've introduced an unmatched Money Back Guarantee. We gave away the original Fallout trilogy, as well as the classic Dungeon Keeper for free, to the gamers around the world. We've promised and delivered Linux support. We've launched our DRM-free movies. We've announced GOG Galaxy, a DRM-free Online Gaming Platform. All that, while maintaining our main focus: expanding our catalog with great classic and indie titles. One of them was Banished, a phenomenally well-received game made by a single person. Here's what our community member, Mordam, had to say about it:

It surprises me that this game can be so much better than most city managing sims I have seen in the last years. The interface is intuitive and helpful, the graphics is spectacular, and the atmosphere is splendid. If you have played a city building game in the last years and have been left with that bad feeling that this was not what you really wanted, try this game. Hopefully you won't be disappointed. I sure wasn't

The year 2013/2014 brought many more exciting titles, classic and new, including S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition, or Risen. You can grab them - and many more - up to 80% off - from our 6th Birthday Promo page, today!Today's featured games will remain discounted until Sunday, September 14, at 9:59AM GMT, so don't miss your chance! And make sure to come back tomorrow for something special...
