    Dragon Play Empty Dragon Play

Post by Riddick Sat Jul 05, 2014 5:43 pm

Dragon Cave is a lot of fun.

You can play it as fast or as slow as you choose.

There are many different ways to play:

    1. If you want to get your bronze trophy as quickly as possible:

         a. Rescue abandoned eggs and hatchlings from the abandoned cave, not
only will you be getting eggs with a shorter hatch time, or hatchlings with no
egg hatching times, you will be rescuing abandoned eggs and hatchlings that
    have been left to die.

          b. Don't throw anything back. Don't kill any eggs or hatchlings or dragons
and don't abandon anything. Throwing away an egg or a hatchling and getting
something new may add to your hatching and growing time, and it will take
    longer to get your trophy.

    2. If you want to breed your own eggs, get males and females
of the same breed, or different compatible breeds and you can
start breeding as soon as you have a male and female that you
    want to breed.

    3. If you want specific types of dragons go to the 6 caves and
you will find descriptions of eggs that you can choose, or go to
the abandoned cave and you will be able to see the actual egg,
click on it, and add it to your scroll.

Some people like a particular type of dragon and fill their scroll
with as many of them as possible, as long as there is no breed
limit for that dragon, that is another fun way to play.

    4. Never beg anyone for an egg or a hatchling,
and never succumb to anyone's begging you for it.
Once the egg or hatchling is on your scroll, it is yours.
While trading is fine, don't let anyone guilt you into
giving up something that you wanted to keep.
    It is against the rules.

    5. Never let anyone "park" their eggs or hatchlings
on your scroll with the intent that they will take them
back when they have hatched, or when they are
    ready to grow up.
It violates gameplay and it is against the rules.

    6. A great resource for Dragon Cave is at your fingertips,
at the top of your scroll.

Click on "Forums" and it will take you to the official forum,
with a great deal of information about dragons, dragonplay,
a Q&A section, resources like dragon hatcheries, when to put
your egg or hatchling into an Emergency Room, how to tell if
your egg or hatchling is sick.

You will need to sign into the Dragon Cave Forums. You can
use your scroll name (if it isn't already taken) or make a new
one if you like, but you are not automatically signed in when
    you sign into your scroll.

    7. To find out more about the eggs that are in the cave,
you can go to Wikia's "Which Egg is Which?" page.
It will show you the egg, give a description of the egg
(so you can find it when looking in the 6 other caves)
show you what the hatchling will look like,
and show you the actual dragon that the egg will become.

Additionally, once you have found and bookmarked
the "Which Egg is Which?" page you will be able to use
the Wikia Dragon Cave section (I believe it is 256 pages)
to answer a lot of questions you may have.

There is a wealth of dragon information in there, including
pictures of holiday eggs and dragons, and pictures of
    retired dragons.

The new eggs can be found in the 6 caves,
    by description.

I have a feeling that as people change
their minds about the new eggs they will
be abandoning eggs and hatchlings into
the abandoned cave to create room on their
scrolls for the new eggs they like better
(not me, I've never killed or abandoned anything)
and you will be able to rescue them there.

As well as Riddick's Adoption Plan, you can also be a Foster Parent.

Dragon eggs normally mature at 4 days. The eggs that come up in the abandoned cave with less than that are easier to snare than hatchlings, and only require some views to hatch. They are usually not very attractive eggs, they are generally the least popular, but sometimes you find a real gem.

I like these eggs because I can enjoy rescuing them, and feeding them. If they are a breed I am collecting, I keep them. But if they're not, I still feed and hatch them, giving them an extra 3 days of life, and making them much more likely to get adopted quickly, because hatchlings always are.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO BENEFIT to playing this way other than the fun of catching the eggs. Which is enough for me. This will likely slow down your progress towards a trophy, because the time you spend feeding and hatching is time not available for catching another egg. I don't care about that. Fostering is for those people who can get their satisfaction out of 'the chase', and who can care for a creature without possessing it. Much like in real life.

Riddick and I agree* that constant swapping over of eggs/snatchlings is callous and cold hearted, but I don't feel any real umbrage about it. After all, the game only functions while people choose to do this.

I have done it, and no doubt that's why I find it understandable, but I think we all have to find our own line to draw in the sand on this one.

For me these days, it is the point at which they hatch that I decide if I will be keeping a hatchling or putting it back. So I name a 'keeper' immediately (named hatchlings cannot be abandoned); a wonderful way of making the naming process meaningful - by naming a hatchling, you are making a commitment.

I love playing Dragon Cave, and one of the things I love about it, is the way this seemingly simple game has all sorts of unexpected strategic decisions to make, and the fun in finding out which one suits you.

*Oops! Seems I expressed myself poorly again. Apparently Riddick doesn't agree that constant swapping eggs/hatchlings is callous and cold hearted - seems I am the big softie on that issue.

I don't agree with you about anything regarding dragon play.

    We never discussed anything about
    swapping of eggs and hatchlings.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

I merely expressed my opinion regarding people
    who cheat at dragon play.

Beyond the thrill of getting new dragon eggs
and new hatchlings, and watching them grow,
I hope this thread can remain calm, friendly,
    and unemotional.
