Oknytt is a point-and-click adventure game where the player takes the role of a small, seemingly insignificant creature, leading it through a dark world riddled with obstacles to help it find a place to belong. The game takes place in a Norse medieval world and contains a number of beings and areas inspired by Swedish folklore.
Oknytt's gameplay is comprised of classic point-and-click puzzle solving combined with the usage of four runes located at the bottom of the screen. These runes can be activated at any time to trigger various changes and events in the area around the protagonist. Each rune has a specific element tied to it which have different areas of use depending on what can currently be seen in the environment. Figuring out what the runes can be used for and how to utilise their affect on the environment together with the items at your disposal is key to you being able to progress through the game world.
    Features

    • Manipulate the environment around you using elemental forces
    • A unique art style inspired by the famous Swedish painter John Bauer
    • Experience and collect lore about creatures and monsters from Scandinavian folk lore
    • Fully voiced by the talented Brian Hall
    • Winner of the Swedish Game Concept Challenge 2012

My first thought when I saw this game was that the graphics are VERY dark... and they are, but upon looking closer, I realized that they are very environmental.  Old-school, yes, but definitely environmental.

This is a puzzle / point-and-click adventure, and made by a 4-person Indie team in Sweden.  I do love to support the developers, especially the up-and-coming ones, and I was intrigued enough to start a topic for them.

If anyone tries this game, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

This game is on sale at Daily Royale for freakin' $0.99!! OH!  Holy cow!  I must have it!!

    *goes off to purchase*

It is MINE, all mine, I tell you!  On the down side, it's Desura only, and I don't have an account, but 99 cents for a game I've been wanting is enough to make get one~ Wink

    Here's a trailer:

I am so tempted! But is it another game I won't be able to play? And how is the graphics quality? The youtube vid showed up very poorly on full screen, but...?

I won't have a chance to play until I get home from work, but wanted to mention that I went into the options, and there is a Gamma slider... meaning that you can adjust the brightness! Sunny

At the time of this posting, there were 162 keys left on the Daily Royale deal~

I've not had a chance to play much, but the gameplay is reminding me a LOT of the old text adventures that I played when I was a kid (which I loved.)  There's a whole lot of "What the hell am I doing/supposed to be doing?" going on.  The tutorial button shows you the basics of movement, etc, but I'm really not sure what the elements buttons are supposed to do, since they do something different depending on which screen you're on Stars

This is going to be a work in progress for me, for certain!

Ok I bought it too. I am a sucker for supporting small game devs who think outside the box, esp for only 99 cents.  Snicker

Oknytt is now available on Steam!

Did you manage to beat the game already? I'm interested in it, but the graphics and overall darkness look like it might be horror central. I enjoy the creepy, but is it possible to die in this game? That would be sort of deal breaker for me.

okay, that's kinda weird! I look at the next topic genki's been at, and it include "Indie deals" and the Doorways deal has Oknytt and 2 other games for $1+ . That is kinda creepy! Now, do I get the 3 at $1, or do I go all out and spend $5 to get the whole bundle?

Need help here. The Face Noir game looks good, Doorways and Huntsman might be alright...

Which deal is that? I can't see one that isn't expired...

Face Noir I'm kind of interested in, it got pretty mediocre reviews but I like detective games. Doorways is way too scary...

Two games for $5 is probably more or less the same as Steam sales could provide. I would need Steam or GOG keys anyway, I'm lazy and I don't want to have accounts at million different places :P

Go to Indiegala, and choose the "Doorways Bundle" tab.

It is there. Still active as far as I can see.

Justie, $5 is a good price for all those games.  I would go for the whole bundle.   Okay

That's sort of what I'm thinking. But I forgot, I already have Doorways lol. I think Face Noir is a definite go, and Huntsman looks like something I could play eventually, when I get my confidence up. The others, meh. Still, as you say $5 = 3 games spells good value.

Verve, thanks for mentioning that this is now at Steam -- I saw it, but totally forgot to add the link here!

I like the game, but haven't been able to play for a couple of weeks.  It's NOT a horror in any way, as far as I can see, but a game of exploration and discovery.

Face Noir is by the same folks that made Cognition, so yeah -- what Frodo said Wink

All of the games on the current Indie Gala are for Steam, except Unhack, which is for Desura.  For Oknytt, you have to redeem at Desura first, then you can get your Steam link.

As far as unwanted games in a bundle go, those codes can be traded for games you DO want over at the GOG forums.  I'm too tired to explain at the moment, but I'll start a new topic to explain when I can.  In the meantime, DON'T redeem codes for games you have zero interest in Big smile

Oh that is very cool genki!!! Will definitely be reading that avidly!! I was going to ask if anyone wanted the ones I don't when I buy the bundle, cuz I hate waste, but I doubted many would be interested. So. Good plan. Will have a 2nd copy of Doorways, so if anyone on the planet doesn't have it yet, they can get from me!!  Happy bounce
