    GOG's First "Fair Price Package"

    Post by genkicoll on Tue Mar 11, 2014 11:51 am

    Pre-order offer update: Age of Wonders 3
    A new "Fair Price Package" detailed.

    As per today's update on getting back to our roots (which you can read here) we are happy to offer a new fair price package for Age of Wonders 3. We've made sure that the price difference is by largely covered by the extra gift codes you'll receive, so here's our updated pre-order offer, which will go live in the next two weeks:

    The Fair Price Package for our UK customers affected by local prices is now one $9.99 code for anyone who buys the Standard Edition, and two $5.99 codes for the Deluxe Edition.

    For other European customers affected by local prices the Fair Price Package for Standard Edition is now one $9.99 code and one $5.99 code, and for the Deluxe Edition it's three $5.99 codes.

    If you already pre-ordered Age of Wonders 3 and received the bonus game gift from us, we'll send you the remaining gift codes to meet the new Fair Price Pacage offer detailed above. If your price difference happened to be $10.00 and you've already selected and redeemed a $5.99 game, please contact support so they can replace it with any of our $9.99 games for you.

    Another thing--when the pre-order offer was launched you could pick a game from a selection of titles. We did not give you the freedom of choice and we would like to fix it. If for any reason you're unhappy with the pick of games that we offered and you ended up with something you're not entirely satisfied with, we invite you to pick something else from our catalog instead. Just contact our customer support and we'll be happy to exchange your free title for another game of the same price range.

    If any of this seems unintuitive to you, our customer support team will be happy to help you. We do hope that this kind of "Fair Price Package" makes much more sense to you and that everyone's experience with getting their game from GOG.com will be as pleasant as we always aim for it to be.

    GOG.com would like to thank Triumph Studios, the fantastic development team behind Age of Wonders 3, for working with us to make this offer possible.

    I can't say that I really understand Huh?  The game is showing up at $39.99 for me (the same price they're charging for this game at Steam).  How does that compare for those of you overseas?

    By the way, I could never pay $40 for one game.  I know that it was common practice in days gone by, but that is a LOT of money! OH!

    Hey Genki.  The game is showing at $39.99 for you?  I assume that's the standard version?   Smile

    This is how is compares to UK pricing...

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Age of Wondors 3 - Standard Version
    http://www.gog.com/game/age_of_wonders_3
    $39.99 = £24.05  (I used THIS SITE to convert prices)
    But GOG will charge us £29.99.
    To change that back into American dollars
    £29.99 = $49.84
    So in the UK, we will be charged almost $10 (£6) MORE, for exactly the same game.   Yeah right
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Age of Wonders 3 - Deluxe Version
    http://www.gog.com/game/age_of_wonders_3_deluxe_edition

    (Can someone in America tell me what price is showing for them please?  Smile )

    GOG is charging £34.99.

    To change that into American dollars (again, using THIS SITE to convert prices)
    £34.99 = $58.15

    The US price is $44.99.

    I don't get it either, but didn't they say any price difference would be covered by "extra gift codes"?

    And yes, I'd *never* pay that much for any game. I'm patient and can wait for sales. Wink

    Yes.  But it just shows how little sense Regional Price makes.

    1.  To take a game, and charge some countries more than others for that exact same game?  Why?  Do we get more game for our mone?  No.  Imagine if you were told, you have to pay $10-$15 more, because you live in USA.  Would you be happy about it?  Rolling Eyes

    2.  GOG is the exception to most companies that do this.  They charge more with one hand, and give it back (in the form of codes) with the other hand.  Wouldn't it just be easier for them to charge the same amount to everyone?   Smile

    That is weird! Huh?  It WAS $39.99 when I posted!

    OH! OK, I see... It's the deluxe edition that's $44.99.  Whew~!

    Here's a link for the regular edition:

    EDIT:  Which Frodo actually posted a link for -- I'm SO TIRED today! Laugh

    Hmm, but is your bottom line price the same or are you still paying more? Do the codes work as a rebate of sorts that go back into your pocket?

    I'm assuming there are legal reasons they have to charge certain prices to overseas customers. As long as you get money back it should still work out the same for you.
