    Interesting-looking and Loved Adventure Games

Post by genkicoll on Wed Feb 05, 2014 7:32 pm

I was interested in this one years ago, but never got it.  Now that I'm not so intimidated by true adventures, I'm thinking of checking it out... eventually Laugh

The Ugly Prince Duckling (link to GamersGate page)

There's a great review for it HERE.

    Jolly Rover

    Haunted

These last two are available at GameHouse, so unless there's a great deal at one of the other places, I'll likely get them there sometime.

    Broken Age
I just posted this one recently, and there are videos in the thread all ready, so I won't add one here.  I'm REALLY interested in this one, so I'm planning to get it someday when the price comes down, thrifty gal that I am Snicker

These are just a few that look interesting to me.

Chime in with thoughts!  What adventures are you coveting?  What already-mentioned games do you have input on?  What are your tried-and-true, must-have adventure games?

I have loved Adventure games for a long time.   I have a whole list of games that need to
be played.  Syberia 1 & 2,  Return to Mysterious Island 1 &2,  Dracula (before the first one
was divided into 3 parts)  Sherlock Holmes are the Adventure games that lured me in.
From Steam alone I have 22 Adventure Games,   some played in Group Plays,
others waiting,   7 from Gamersgate I would like to get to  (2 I could not get to play,
2 -Shadows on the Vatican and Paris 1313,  just could not get into),
7 from Good Old Games,   1 from Viva Media  (Momento Mori),  1 from Green Man Gaming,
and 2 from  Shiney Loot  (Oknyt and Castle Dracula).
At the moment I have The Raven Dl/d and started playing and am planning on getting
    to it this weekend.

Neat!  I'll be tackling the Syberia games later, but first I need to get through Fallout and The Longest Journey (which we'll be starting in a couple of days.)

What are your favorite adventures (that you have played) luvtoread?

I know that Rmom is a huge fan of the Monkey Island games, but which ones?  I'm sure she'll let us know when she checks in Elk grin

(Trying not to overload my posts with games, so I'm going to spread this stuff out over several posts)

The Longest Journey  is another one I need to tackle.

Syberia 1 &2 will always be my first Adventure love.   You will understand when you have
played it.    It brought out every emotion in me.

I know you're busy with other things, but you're welcome to join in on TLJ at any time.

I've heard a lot of good things about the Syberia games, and I'm excited that there's a third one in production, even though I haven't played them, yet!
I have the Dracula games here somewhere... Just not sure where! Belly laugh  One of these days I'll actually play all my games!

Here's a couple I was looking at a few years ago, just because of the art work Silly face

    Ceville (GamersGate link)

Now that I see what it's really about, I'm not sure it's my kind of thing.  I think you have to have a very special kind of sense of humor to truly appreciate this one! Laugh

Ankh 2: Heart of Osiris (GamersGate link) & Ankh 3, too

These are on sale as a pack at an incredible price at Steam right now, but I'm just not sure they're my speed.

Hello gang! I was sick in bed yesterday with a debilitating stomach virus-thing, and am somewhat better but still home today. I love this thread!! Genki, I haven't heard of those games so will check them out for sure.

Okay, some fun times for me. These are admittedly mostly old school throwbacks but I can't help myself.  Snicker

Tales of Monkey Island (get it - all 5 installments - on sale):

The Longest Journey. Yeah the graphics are dated - so what?  Silly face

    The incomparable Grim Fandango:

For my money LucasArts had the BEST games overall.

More to come but don't want to put them all in one post. I assume ok to include videos, Genki?

Oh, I do have Haunted (though haven't played it) and am also really looking forward to Broken Age.

Zork: Grand Inquisitor was a beloved game to me: very funny and featuring live great actors. I replayed it recently and the graphics are a bit extra, um, fuzzy, unfortunately. Still playable, but I wish it would be redone.

Same of Gabriel Knight: Sins of The Father. Great game, creepy with lots of humor, well acted (by top names including Tim Curry and Mark Hamill) but unfortunately very dated graphics make it hard to see clearly.

    Sierra Games
was another fantastic developer in the day and a great favorite of mine, but game saving was extra important as your character could and did die, pretty regularly LOL.

Of course there's the wonderfully atmospheric Syberia and Syberia II. Can't believe you haven't played them yet, Genki; you must!!

Okay the trailer for the first Broken Sword. I know it's cartoonish but believe me this is a really classic game - exciting, fun with great humor and, again, well acted. The sequels are worth it too and I'm just waiting for a sale to buy the 5th game.

Never played but really want, the Black Mirror series. I heard they're very good.

Ooh Amanita Design games - how I love them! A whole 'nother kind of point & click, so beautiful and imaginative!
    Botanicula:

    and Machinarium:

I'm glad you're feeling better!  Offering

The Amanita games are AWESOME!  You can do the demos and/or play some of their shorter creations in full HERE.  Definitely check out Samorost! Wub

Along those same lines are these games (LOVE them!)

    The Tiny Bang Story

    Lilly Looking Through

    Shaban

(Why haven't I played this one, yet?? ... Well, I haven't even finished Machinarium yet, either! Embarrassed  )

And another along the same lines, the recently-released Morphopolis

I've heard a lot about this over the years:
    Barrow Hill (GOG Wishlist page)

I've been looking at this one for a while now. Knock-knock

I've heard that the Penumbra games (GOG link) are incredibly good

I'm VERY interested in this one, but it requires a controller Sweat drop  I've put the controller on my birthday wishlist! Laugh  Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

I have Barrow Hill and will one day play it in a Dark Fall marathon, which I'd been planning to play this winter and here it is February already!

I decided against Knock-Knock because I'd read too many reviews stating the game just becomes incredibly repetitive. But next time it's on sale really cheap I may pick it up anyway.

The Penumbra series always seemed too scary to me. Have you read their storylines? EEK!

I am game to pick up The Grave Digger, a wicked looking little indie:

Oh, and I have Stacking, which I'm dying to play soon:

This is what intrigues me about the Penumbra games:
The Penumbra Collection is a first person horror adventure focusing on story, immersion, and puzzle solving.  Sounds good to me!  Of course it also says that the unknown is waiting around every corner and that we'll be scared like never before! Laugh

The Grave Digger is a very odd-looking game! Huh?  It kinda looks like a 3D, overview take on platformers!

I remember when Stacking came out -- such a weird concept, but it looks like they handled it beautifully!

EDIT:  WHOA!  Stacking's part of the new Humble Bundle! OH!
EDIT #2: I really wanted Psychonauts, so now I have Stacking, too!

I'm really interested in this one.

    Contrast <--GOG Wishlist

Currently the Daily Deal at Steam, but I'd MUCH rather get it at GOG!

I'd love to see some more posts in this thread!  I'm sure that by now everyone knows how in love I am with The Walking Dead.  Not posting a video as it would give away too much of the story, which is the primary thrust of the games.  An absolute MUST-have for anyone who enjoys compelling, immersive games!
