Trust me, his name ain't Hero - it's Mario (or Super Mario).  Snicker

    Developer: Torque

    Just Plain Poor**

    BASED ON DEMO

    FIRST IMPRESSIONS
This is a true adventure-styled game. Meaning, you click your cursor to where you want to go, and watch as Hero ambles over to it. Likewise to view something in close up. That there are HOP scenes doesn’t alter its fundamental nature. It is a very poorly made, poorly designed and generally useless game.

    SIGHTS & SOUNDS
The graphics quality is low. It is 2D adventure style, very low definition, clunky, pixelated and grainy. Items are hard to see in HOP scenes that are lit in unhelpful ways, and are often too tiny. Sometimes, I couldn’t see them even with the help of hint. There is a long load time on the different locations. The ambient sounds are very nice, though, and the music is not bad. There are no voiceovers, but quite a bit of dialogue when you meet characters.

To add insult to injury, the translated English is also bad. It could be a lot worse. You can figure out what they mean (at least, so far), but it’s an effort I could do without. Even allowing for the long load times, this is a slow game.

    WHAT’S HAPPENING?
The game is set on a tropical island near Australia, where a lost tribe was discovered in 2020. Certainly an imaginative start. Hero, the bravest member of the village, dreams that he must rescue his girlfriend over and over again, as each time he rescues her, he finds her in another castle. At least, this may be the dream he is about to report to the shaman, I never got close enough to find out.

    GAMEPLAY
As I said, adventure style – wander around, talk to people, go on quests, pick up objects of use to you, and so on. Except this game is so slow and so hard to navigate I spent 30 minutes with the result of one conversation and 2 HOPs, the 2nd of which I could not finish, because the game would not pick up an object I needed. Sometimes, with me, the problem is my unfamiliarity with the game’s mechanics, but in this case, there is not enough in it to warrant my further investigation. I just couldn’t be bothered.

    COMBINED IMPACT
As far as I’m concerned, this game wasted a half hour of my life. The only thing it has going for it is its story, which is delightfully new. Hopefully, some other developer with buy it from these ones, and do it justice.

    I don’t recommend this game!
