Help With Identifying a Couple of HOG's? Empty Help With Identifying a Couple of HOG's?

Post by genkicoll Sat Jan 04, 2014 6:15 pm

I got a PM at Big Fish asking if I could help figure out what a couple of HOG's titles are.  I'm hoping y'all can help!

One of them was about a young woman who was a Detective who was called to a small city to investigate the deaths of several people and yet when it came time to see the bodies, she could not find them and all of the info led back to a Priest who did not have any idea of what she was referring to. A couple more deaths occured and they also led back to the priest. I, at first, thought that the Priest had something to do with the deaths but I do remember that in the end that he knew of a legend about the deaths and disappearances which in turn helped her to find the true answer. Does that info "ring a bell" with you at all?

The other game was about a young girl going to a foreign country to find her grandfather and the info she gathered led her into a bunch of caves where she ended up meeting a guy that also had ties to her grandfather and they ran into a man who they had to kill because he tried killing them so that they could go no further. She finally was able to find her grandfather but he had died but he had left her with a fortune of beautiful artifacts. This one may sound "poorly done" but it wasn't and I used to play it quite often.

I was thinking the first one sounded like a Strange Cases game, but I never played any of those except the demos.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I do not think this is it,  but Autumn's Treasure:  The Jade Stone comes to mind,
I guess because she went to a foreign country.   But I think grandpa or whoever was
dead already.  She was left a bookstore,  I believe.
I know I'm not much of a help,  its just there were so many  "grandpa needs to be
found even though I barely knew him"  games that some players suggested  A.  Put
a Chip in Grandpa  or B.  Leave him wherever he went to.   Big smile

Do you know how old these games are, Genki? I sure am drawing a blank. I've played all the Strange Cases games & there is a female detective involved. The cards that lead you to different HO scenes are the cool thing in most of the Strange Cases games.

Gosh, I guess it's true...when you play a lot of games, they all sort of blend together.

yes, knowing how old the games are approximately may help. And really HOGs? straight HOG or iHOG?

I'm asking cos I find the part of having to kill a man (even a baddie) in the 2nd description VERY unusual for a normal HOG.

Anyway, I don't remember these stories, but I checked my game notes for "Priest" and "grandfather/grandpa", and here are the results:

    Priest
    9: The Dark Side CE
    Mystery Age: The Dark Priests
Secrets of the Dark: Temple of Night CE
The Saint: Abyss of Despair (probably not, the Priest is mentioned differently)

grandfather, where the story description doesn't rule it out right away (in others grandpa is still alive or main actor is male or story takes place in her home town / house / theater and the like)

    Column of the Maya
    Kate Arrow: Deserted Wood
Snapshot Adventures - Secret of Bird Island

Let us know when it is revealed, pls. ;)

You know, both of these ring a bell sort of, but I can't decide if it's because I know the games or because the motif is the same in SO. MANY. GAMES.

Missing grandpa? What a shocking development. (You want to really shock me in a game? Have grandpa be right where he's supposed to be. LOL)  Shock

    Sorry I'm not more help!

I was looking through my Purchase History last night and I thought Kate Arrow: Deserted Wood looked good for the second game, also.
It has been a very long time since I played it and I CRS.

I hope she messages back. I'm curious about what games she's referring to now... for no good reason other than just being curious I guess!  Embarrassed

    Here's part of her message:
JTFGoldie wrote:2 that sound VERY familiar are - The Dark Side as well as Secrets of the Dark: Temple of the night. I'm going to go look for them on BF and see if they may be the ones I have missed. Thank all of them for the lists that they put out there..........looks like there may be a couple more that I may try out as well. Help With Identifying a Couple of HOG's? Rainbow
