    FURIOUS! Empty FURIOUS!

    from Yahoo! News Canada

Ontario police investigating hateful letter telling family to ‘euthanize’ autistic child

Ontario police are aware of a disgusting letter sent to a woman caring for an autistic child by another woman who wanted the "wild animal kid" out of her neighbourhood, even if it meant killing the child.

The hateful letter was reportedly sent last week to a resident of Newcastle, Ont., just east of Toronto, who hosts her 13-year-old grandson, Max, during summer days.

Mother Karley Begley spoke with CityNews and broke down in tears as she tried to read the letter.

The letter was re-posted on Twitter by Lennon and Maisy, a young Ontario singing duo who also star on ABC's Nashville.

The post has been retweeted more than 3,000 times.

Durham Regional Police told Yahoo! Canada News that a report was filed on Friday and an investigation is ongoing.

"We are certainly taking it seriously," spokesperson Jodi MacLean said on Monday.

"We are consulting with the Crown to see if there is any criminality that went on with the letter."

From its tone, the letter might be considered anything from abusive to threatening or perhaps even criminal. It is addressed to "the lady living at this address" and signed, "One pissed off mother!!!!*"

*The number, but not the frequency, of exclamation and question marks used in the letter has been approximated in this post. It reads:
One pissed off mother wrote:I also live in this neighbourhood and have a problem!!!! You have a kid that is mentally handicapped and you consciously decided that it would be a good idea to live in a close proximity neighgbourhood like this???? You selfishly put your kid outside everyday and let him be a nothing but a nuisance and a problem to everyone else with that noise polluting whaling he constantly makes!!! That noise he makes when he is outside is DREADFUL!!!!!!!!!! It scares the hell out of my normal children!!!!!!!!!
The letter goes on to state:
One pissed off mother wrote:Crying babies, music and even barking dogs are normal sounds in a residential neighbourhood!!!!! He is NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is a nuisance to everyone and will always be that way!!!!!! Who the hell is going to care for him????????? No employer will hire him, no normal girl is going to marry/love him and you are not going to live forever!!

They should take whatever non retarded body parts he possesses and donate it to science. What the hell else good is he to anyone!!!!

You had a retarded kid, deal with it... properly!!!!! What right do you have to do this to hard working people!!!!!!!!!

I HATE people like you who believe, just because you have a special needs kid, you are entitled to special treatment!!! GOD!!!!

Go live in a tralier in the woods or something with your wild animal kid!!! Nobody wants you living here and they don't have the guts to tell you!!!!!
Do the right thing and move or euthanize him!!! Either way, we are ALL better off!!!
According to CityNews, the neighbourhood has come out in support of the Begley family and is trying to determine who sent the letter.

I'm too angry to express what I'm thinking right now -- I'll come back later, when I've calmed down.

Just reading this makes my head want to explode.  Maybe someone can arrange to give PO'd mom all the peace & quiet she wants in an isolated cell in the back of the county lock-up!

What a terrible woman to write something like that. I couldn't even open the link, sorry genki, because I know I'd be up in arms about it.

I can't imagine she herself is bringing up children. I'm so glad the neighborhood is rallying around the family.

I read this and was disgusted.    Glad the neighbors are supporting her, but I really hope that one of those neighbors isn't the one that wrote it and is now pretending to be nice.   That worries me.

The same thing occurred to me, luv.  I always look for the best in people, but I can't think of anything that would be redeeming about such a horrible woman.

You know what?  My youngest is very loud.  She screams when she's in pain, and she yells when she's incredibly happy.  If we could stop her from screaming, we would!  We don't want her to be in pain, ever, but she can't tell us what's wrong, and it's hard to figure out where the pain is coming from most times.  The happy yelling just makes us smile, and that I wouldn't change.  It's how she expresses herself, and the only way she knows how.  She can't help it.

Instead of this woman letting her kids to be scared by the unknown, why not teach them some compassion?  Encourage them to learn something new, not revile that which scares them.

I’ve told you about granddaughter Coral elsewhere in the site.  She is the joy of our lives.  Yes, she is loud, and leaves a room in shambles.  No, we sometimes don’t know what she needs since she is non-verbal.  That leaves all of us frustrated but she is something more…

Those of you who are familiar with Autism know that hugs are usually non-existent (or at least they are for Coral).  But, about 18 months ago my husband was confined to a wheelchair because of Parkinson’s.  We were a little concerned how Coral would react to that (she had just turned 5 at the time).  Well, no worry, she marched right into our house, went directly to him, put an arm across his shoulders, and laid her head on his as if to say ‘don’t worry it will be alright’.  Still, the first place she stops when she visits is her grandfather’s wheelchair, and he is the last person she ‘says goodbye’ to when she leaves.

Special People can have an amazing impact on our lives.  Those that can’t open their hearts to that will never know true love, compassion, and dignity.

Justgaming I love your story! Coral's a trip!

I read that letter online yesterday and was so... shocked is the word, I guess, but other words come to mind as well. It was probably the most disgusting thing I'd ever read, especially under the guise of "advice" from a so-called neighborly mom. What an evil bitch!!!

I've needed to distance myself from this for a bit.  I'm still angry, but sadly, people like this exist the world over.  It's really disheartening that people can't see the amazing gift these children really are.  For God's sake, there would be no Beethoven, no Van Gogh, no Bill Gates, or any other number of famous (high functioning) autistics if these people had their way!  Temple Grandin is VERY autistic, and a savant.  She has made AMAZING changes in the world of livestock and the ethical treatment of animals, but no, according to these people, she should have been killed and sold off for parts when she was a child.  OUTRAGEOUS!

Even if my children never affect the world at large, they have made a huge splash in not only my life, but in our community.  The teachers would "fight" over who got to work with my girls, simply because my kids are so delightful.  Yes, they're a handful, but they have enriched my life in ways I can scarcely describe.  Between my awful ongoing health problems and raising these children, I have attained a compassion for others that I wouldn't have dreamed of when I was younger.  It's one thing to "feel for someone" else's problems, and another to have been there, to have lived it... that is what gives us TRUE compassion.  A former friend could not understand why I "allowed" certain situations in my life, and that lack of even a simple understanding and kindness is one of the reasons I cut off all contact with him.... but I digress.

Going back to something I mentioned earlier, I highly recommend checking out Temple Grandin if you've never heard of her.  You can check out an excerpt from Thinking in Pictures here:
    http://www.grandin.com/inc/visual.thinking.html

As for the main subject of this thread, I'm trying to let my anger go... There are simply too many idiots in this world, and I would be living in fury my whole life if I let it get to me every time one of them pops up and makes a fool of him/herself.  *shaking my head ruefully*

    hello

I read the post and the article, in this world what 'that is not lacking is information and knowledge on everything, I think these things are dictated by fear that tends to make arid, and idiot is right definition. (not justification)
I've seen a lot of information on autism talk about it a lot.

I've been trying to think of some suitable punishment for this person, but anything creative escapes me.  I think you're right, genki, we have to find a way to put the anger to rest.  But, it isn't too easy is it.  I try to keep in mind the tremendous outpouring of care & love that has been shown toward my DGD.  Somehow that helps, but then I think of the people who have glowered at her in Walmart because she is in melt-down mode.  The same thing is true about my husband & his wheelchair.  The majority of people are unbelievably kind & then along comes some idiot that acts like they think he chose to be in a wheelchair, blocking the aisles.

I guess the best thing we can do sometimes is hold hands (like we do here) and remind ourselves that the majority of people want to understand & do care.  And, of course, pray for Karma.
