Butterfly, I have played the Otherworld games and I agree with luvtoread. The first one blew me away, I enjoyed it so much. Silly me, only got the SE.
The second one, I bought the CE & I liked it, but not as much as the first.
The third one, I will get the CE. Hopefully, we'll get a weekend special on CEs (even though I don't see another BOGO sale, since we've already had 2 this week).

I have finished Dark Tales: The Blood Ruby and I thought it was a great game! I realize there were no achievements, collectibles, nor any special "animal" helpers...just good solid gameplay, leaning more towards puzzle-solving than HO scenes.
Bonus content is not needed for a satisfactory ending... though it contains some killer puzzles.
This developer also did the Timeless games and I so enjoyed Timeless: The Lost Castle.
And most times, I just want to play a game with nothing extra. For me, a game that relies on a good storyline and good gameplay trumps "special achievements" any time.

I did the beta for The Toymaker, also. The title sounded great! To say I was mildly disappointed once I started playing is an understatement. I was extremely bored by the time I finished the beta and no, it did not get any better.

Awesome weekend sale at GOG!  7th Guest, 11th Hour, the Dracula games, To the Moon Heart  , Machinarium, The Longest Journey... Even a Nancy Drew game!

I have the beta for The Toymaker in my inbox, but I'm hearing that it's really boring.  I'll try it anyway, since I finished Enigmatis 2 and haven't started a new game, yet Smile

Wow... I just finished The Toymaker's beta, and I am completely underwhelmed.  It's a throwback to the very earliest Mystery Case Files games, but not as interesting Yeah right

Note to self:  The game is mady by Grey Wizard Innovative for Artifex Mundi.

@Hi luvto and DJ - Thanks for the info on Otherworld.    Happy bounce

@DJ - I have Dark Tales: The Blood Ruby but haven't played it yet. I really look forward to playing it now. I agree with you about the 'extra's in a game.  A good storyline and game play trumps the extra's everytime for me also.

Wow, so many spooky animations everywhere, love it!

I just tried to play The Dark Hills of Cherai 2 and I was totally confused! Stars I didn't know who I supposed to play as, at any given time, nor did I know what inventory objects needed to be exchanged. Sometimes, I would get on a roll and assumed I knew what I was doing, but then I would get stuck again. Evidently, my CRS won't let me play!

I demo'd Fairy Tale Mysteries 2: The Beanstalk and I'll wait for the SE, maybe. I need to use some of my PCCs, anyways.

According to BFG's Facebook page, Hondo is leaving the "Pond" and someone else will be doing the Highlights or Sneak Peeks or whatever they're called on fb.

Sometimes, I have to wonder what on earth is going on over at BFG.

Hi D&E'ers.  I was a regular lurker but infrequent poster at the D&E forum @bfg, but have been on a prolonged gaming sabbatical (sometimes life happens, right) & hadn't kept up with the forum since August.  I finally get the chance to re-enter my preferred world... & bfg is all weird, the forums are gone, & y'all are MIA Overreaction Um, yeah, I freaked a little & finally remembered to run here (thanks for all this, Genki.  You saved me from Gamer's Depression Diving).  Just read thru this D&E forum from the beginning, & am sooo glad to see so many familiar folks here who've kept me entertained & informed for so long.  So now I have a small clue about what the heck happened while I was off in neverland - kinda - but I feel like Dorothy entering Oz when I go to bfg.  Hardly any reviews get posted for new games, no Hondo, & what's up with the casino thing?  Also noticed that where D&E games always ruled the top 10, they don't so much now, & there seems to be fewer offered.  or maybe I just caught it on off-days?  Anyway, I have a lot of catching up to do & know I musta missed some good games since before all the changes.  I'm gonna try to get my gaming head re-calibrated with all the good info here & get back to the D&E world pronto.  This might not be the right place to post this, but I was so thrilled to find you guys, I just had to crawl out from behind my rock to say hey.  btw, any news on a new MCF coming?  If I read it I didn't retain it... still a little slow on the uptake, geesh.

So glad to see you! Offering  If you need any help with the site, there are plenty of tutorials, lists, and indexes galore.  Just say the word, and we'll get you pointed in the right direction Smile

A lot has happened in these past couple of months, I don't even know where to start.  We got 24 hours notice that CCC was shutting down, and that's it.  All posts that weren't in game threads are now gone forever, and the moderators are ruling the remaining forums with an iron fist.  So very much creativity was lost.  It's really sad.

As for the new MCF game, it's called Fate's Carnival, and is being made by Elephant Games.

Hi there, jessmom01! Big smile Most definitely, I think we were all taken by surprise with the closing of CCC after being told we were getting brand new forums and to be given 24 hours notice was just kind of crappy. But then, I'm not CEO of a big gaming company and maybe that's how they do business.

I have noticed the same thing about the D&E HOPAs slowly disappearing, in favor of the fairytale stories. While I don't have anything against these types of storylines (if they're done well), my preferred category is D&E and always will be.
And I think it means...I will not be buying as many games as I usually do.
Which is a conflict for me because I want to support the game developers (and continue playing casual games on my computer), but on the other hand, I'd like to buy/play the D&E games.
My sister recently purchased an IPad and she loves it. I told her I'd like to get another desktop and she said "Why would you want to do that? Desktops are old-fashioned."
So, there you go....this is where we're all headed and I, for one, don't like it.

Thanks Genki, & hey there djrum! Wow, it's hard to believe how CCC got shut down almost without warning, & all that good stuff is just... gone.  Genki, you put it perfectly when you say so much creativity was lost.  I'm with you, djrum - i'm a D&E lover first & foremost, occasionally wandering into another genre if a game's really great.  So I probably wont be shelling out the bucks I used to either.  I'm no business person, but it just seems like the recent moves at bfg had to alienate a lot of the clientele; I mean, personally, I wouldn't have bought half of the ton of games I have if it hadn't been for cruising CCC.  Gotta wonder how many others feel the same.  You're right, everybody has or wants an ipad, but I'm holding out & wont be giving up PC gaming anytime soon.  Heck, I just built a great PC for gaming last spring, & comparing it to small screen without the speed, sound, graphics, etc just doesn't cut it for me.  There is hope for us tho - if you google "the future of PC gaming", you'll find some 2013 articles talking about a resurgence in PC gaming, & it made me feel better - for now anyway.   Well, i'm glad there's a new MCF coming out, & surprised (again) that it got farmed out to a different dev.  I really like Elephant Games, & hope they can do justice to what imho has been a pretty awesome series of games, for the most part.  Should be interesting Hmm... ok, i'm gonna shut up now Zip it Sorry for being so long-winded, but I missed this stuff!!  Happy gaming, all.

Personally, I can't refer to them as the "pond" anymore. Let's call a spade a spade, it's a company and Hondo has either quit or been fired/laid off. Probably the latter. I don't know what's happening with that company and I hate the way they're running their business and treating their longtime customers, but ultimately I just don't want to lose all my games. Yeah right

Whew, thought I'd lost my little notebook with all my usernames/passwords in it and I have 2 of them, in case one gets lost!

R-Mom, I feel the same way. For me, it hasn't been the "Pond" since CCC closed. I mean, BFG has a fb page, but it's nowhere near the same thing.

I read the article, too, jessmom. It actually gave me hope that PC gaming would stick around and I'm crossing my fingers that it holds true.
I love playing games on my computer. Not some teeny, tiny device that I can't see objects on and needs charging all the time. I don't have a lot of new technological things, but the ones I do have...I'm always forgetting to charge.
And I think those IPads are a little heavy. I told my sister the newer desktops storage capacity is now in tetrabytes along with super-fast processors & RAM capabilities.

By the way, I wanted to mention... Did you know you can use emoticons for your avatar? Whistle

Go to the reply/posting box, find the emoticon you want to use, right-click on it to get the URL, then paste that link in the 'Link to an off-site Avatar' bar where you change avatar.

    Thanks for the information, Genki!

It's funny...I'll be reading various posts here & see one about a game I'd forgotten about, then I have to rush and see if I have that game or demo it if I don't.

I cruised BFG's forums, also. I have found some good, older games by reading the review of someone who'd posted in that game's forum, bringing it up to the first couple pages of CCC.
    Otherwise, it's out-of-sight, out-of-mind, for me.

Ooh, but you absolutely can get a virus on iPad and especially on iPhone! There was a big sh*tstorm about viruses on Apple's App Store not that long ago. Google Play is much more plagued (like Windows) due to open nature of the system, but that doesn't mean iOS is safe. I expect a lot more malware to appear on iOS in the future - it's popular and its users are too trusting.

Arguing tablets are better than PCs is like arguing bicycles vs motorcycles. They're two different kinds of machine that may be used roughly for the same thing, but one is more capable than another in certain fields. That's just silly. PC users are splitting into heavy PC users, light ultrabook users and tablet users, but it doesn't mean PCs are going away. It just means we're getting more specialized machines that are more suited to our needs.

I'm a big fan of specialized devices. Sweat drop That's why I like consoles and can't justify owning a desktop PC (I have normal PC at work, if I had to use my own, I'd probably buy a desktop just to separate it from my personal laptop). For the note, I see no value in owning a tablet. Yeah right  It does everything my phone does and nothing my laptop does. It's the most useless mainstream piece of electronics for me. Silly face

Back on topic, I've been playing Blood and Ruby lately. Belly laugh

Hey there folks.  Thanks for the welcome, R-mom Smile .  Oh my, djrum, I hope your sis doesn't find out the hard way about viruses & ipads, like my poor co-worker who came in almost in tears this morning 'cause her ipad had been "compromised".  She'd never even thought of an AV for it.  I don't have a whole lot of techie stuff either.  I agree with Vervaine about tablets - I can't justify buying one.  Between my phone & comp, it just seems redundant.  Everyone's got a tech niche they're comfortable in, I guess.  It's good to have options.  So getting to games... geesh, I dl'd 14 demos!  I don't think i'll get much done around the house this weekend Silly face   It's been so long since I've been able to just chill out & play, this'll be great Happy bounce Looking forward to a few in particular, like the new Enigmatis, Sable Maze, & Midnight Mysteries, plus Bloody Mary... and some others I've seen mentioned here.  Just gotta stock up on coffee & chocolate after work friday, & i'll be in heaven 'til Sunday night.  It'll be a good weekend for relaxing in PA; cold, rain/snow mix predicted.  Now if i can just get my dogs to walk themselves so i don't have to get out of my flannel jammies... Yeah right

Thanks for the info on viruses & an IPad. I'll definitely make sure I let her know! We were also talking about IPhones and viruses. My opinion was...any device you can get on the internet with is susceptible to a virus and I don't care what company made the device. (My daughter told me you can get a virus on an IPhone. It's not easy, but it could happen)
My sister has an IPhone (I don't know which one, I think she got it last year) and she cannot d/l the latest update because she doesn't have enough space and she doesn't want to delete any music or apps.

I have been playing solitaire lately. I finished Zombie Solitaire and I started replaying Avalon Legends Solitaire.

Sounds like a good weekend, jessmom! We may get snow tomorrow. Oh no, it's too early for snow!!
