What Are You Watching? Empty What Are You Watching?

Post by genkicoll Mon Jul 01, 2013 2:11 pm

I'm not hugely into TV, being so busy with other things, but I have gotten into two recent series:

The first is Defiance, which is based upon a post-alien apocalypse Earth.  I like it, I enjoy it, but it doesn't CALL to me like some series have in the past (ie. Firefly and LOST.)  There's some good humor in there to break up the drama, but not quite enough for me.  The characters are all SO intense, a bit more levity would not go amiss.

The second is the Stephen King-based series, Under the Dome.  I caught the premiere last night (as an encore,) and will see the second episode last night.  There is enough of the "What the hell...?" to it that I'm intrigued to see where it goes.  Stephen King's mind is seriously deranged! Belly laugh

I know that we have our BBC Sherlock fans, but what else might y'all be watching?  Anyone else enjoying the ones mentioned above?

BBC Sherlock fans? Guilty as charged! Wub

There's not much on that I watch with any regularity. I enjoy The Big Bang Theory, but this season has been a little too... sexualized would be the word, I guess, for my tastes, though it has calmed down as of late. I love the episodes with Wil Wheaton especially!

We don't have cable, so anything would have to be network or on Netflix. I don't watch anything that's on network television. I go through entire series of shows on Netflix, mostly British crime shows. Right now I am taking a break from the British and watching CSI: Miami from episode 1. I never watched it when it was new!

Last night was the season finale for Defiance.  When I looked it up, I was shocked to find that this was episode twelve... It felt like it had only been seven or eight episodes!  Speaking of shocked, BOY, what an episode!  I never imagined that they would do some of the things we saw last night (I won't spoil it here for those who haven't seen it.)

Another shocker -- there won't be any new episodes for a full YEAR!  June, 2014! OH!

Twins, I've never watched any CSI.  I do watch the original NCIS when it's on, but that's about it for my crime-themed dramas Smile

I cannot believe how short some of these "Seasons" are.   Warehouse 13 is winding down,
and I believe this is its final season.Cry
Under the Dome,   my goodness---have it DVR'd and forgot!!  Now will have to watch.
I started watching Perception--did not get into it last season, but now I am hooked.
Of Course, Major Crimes and Rizzoli and Isles are back on, and I do enjoy those.
I watched Defiance once---it just didn't grab me.

I had wanted to watch Warehouse 13, but I found out about it long after it started, and I didn't want to jump in at the middle.  I saw a piece of it a few days ago, and was thinking that it reminded me (A LOT!) of Department 42: The Mystery of the Nine.

Defiance never really grabbed me, either -- I just don't care about the characters enough to really get into it, but I have enjoyed it, nonetheless.

My eldest is crying now... We just found out that Cote DePablo will not be coming back for Season 11 of NCIS.  Silly girl, she's swearing that she'll never watch the show again, now that Ziva is going to be gone.  This would be the OCD aspect of her autism shining through Silly face  On the plus side, Cote will be on the show long enough to wrap up Ziva's story.

I didn't know about Cote dePablo leaving!!! Cry  I have to say, if Ducky left, I think I would
stop watching. Overreaction  He was the reason I originally stuck with the show.
I remember when Sasha Alexander was killed off.   I was in shock.   I knew she had asked
to be let go,  but that was when I realized how much I grew to like those characters.
I do like her in Rizzoli and Isles.

A main complaint on forums is that the SyFy channel is barely SyFy,  they keep cancelling good
shows.  I agree.   Its frustrating to get involved in a good show, just to have them
cancel them,   or have Seasons that barely last more than it takes to take a shower
    and brush your teeth:gah:
This season is the last for my favorite killer:  Dexter Heart

Well, both NCIS and The Big Bang Theory will be back next week.  Happy day! Happy bounce  I'm not hugely into them, but I do enjoy them.

I do have a new MUST-see show, now... Under the Dome.  Ohhh, it's a good one, so very good!  I've not read the book (by Stephen King,) and I'm definitely not going to until the series is over.

For those familiar with Mr. King's books, rather than being a horror, this one is more like Duma Key, which I would have sworn was by Dean Koontz if I hadn't known better!

I am *always* behind the times, TV-wise. I also don't have regular broadcast TV and rely on what I get on Netflix, Amazon Prime and online. That said, I'm currently watching House of Cards, Orange Is The New Black, Damages Season 5, Copper, and Mad Men Season-something (6? 7?) And a few other shows that are not coming to mind right now.

I am also a big Sherlock fan and have always enjoyed watching BBC TV. I also like Dexter and Psych. Um, and now I'm drawing a blank. Rolling Eyes

I'm looking forward to seeing how Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. turns out. I think Clark Gregg's Agent Coulson is hilarious and awesome, so I have high hopes for the show. I'm pretty sure it starts on the 24th, and I hope to be able to see it. I'm notoriously fickle and disloyal to television shows in general though. I suppose I expect too much and get disappointed.

That being said, I've heard great things about this one, so I'm willing to give it a try!Okay

Can't wait for the new seasons of NCIS, Criminal Minds and Blue Bloods - all starting next week!!  YAY! I am very distressed about Ziva leaving as well on NCIS.  It will be interesting to see how they do it.  I certainly hope she isn't killed off!

volnole--I read she is not being killed off--thank goodness.   I am looking forward to the same shows you are.
I have also been watching The Fall with Gillian Anderson on Netflix and the BBC one with David Tennant-Broadchurch,
I believe its called  (I do like him and its a good show).

We lost Showtime for awhile,  so now I need to catch up on Dexter  as the finale is tonight.   This is the last season
for our sexy Killer  who rids the world of evil  and has some really funny one-liners.     Cry

Guess I have to confess I'm a TVaholic.  Love to watch all the new shows, then make the determination of which to keep,

One of my faves is Hell on Wheels, a really gritty story about the trains going through the middle of the country.

Another one I love is The Middle, with Patricia Heaton, and Neil Flynn, the fellow who played the janitor on Scrubs.

Also love any mysteries on PBS.  Watching Broadstreet right now and loving it.

And I wonder why I have no time, lol.

Alas, I am also a TVaholic Sable.  My TV is always on! I love all types of shows from true crime to home and garden.  I watch live trials also.  The only shows I really don't care for are the majority of the reality shows.  I do like Idol and some of the Chef ones, but that is all.

Luvtoread, I have heard a lot about Dexter but have not watched it.  I think I may have to find it.  I also watch Hawaii 5-0.

Of course, I am a sports fanatic as well, so I am pretty much glued to the tv these days.  Thank goodness for the DVR!

Has anyone seen Haven or Psych?  I was interested in checking those two out.

Y'all get to hear a story now... As you (probably) know, both of my children are on the autism spectrum, eldest being at the higher end.  This story is about her.

Last night, I walked into the kitchen and playfully poked (softly!) my eldest in the side, at which time she jumped and SLAPPED my hand, telling me not to do that.  Of course, this did not go over well with me.

"You hit me!  Why did you do that?  All I did was touch you!"

From there it deteriorated into her yelling and putting her finger in my face, telling me not to raise my voice at her.

    Uh, excuse me? Huh?

Yeah, that didn't go over well.  In the end, I walked away (though not before grounding her from the telephone,) and my husband had a talk with her about being disrespectful to her mother.  I was not angry -- this is not her usual behavior -- I just knew that she wasn't going to listen right then.

I suspected I knew the cause, and sure enough, it's because of NCIS.  She is VERY anxious about Ziva leaving the show, and anxiety causes her to act out.  She can't help it, though that does not excuse her behavior.

This isn't the first time NCIS has caused a meltdown at my place.  When Ducky had his heart attack, she burst into tears and was upset for WEEKS!  There have been other instances, as well.  Poor girl Rolling Eyes

So why do I allow her to watch the show?  It's not only family bonding time, but also a good time for life lessons.  Things don't always go as we planned, bad things happen to good people, x-situation would never happen in real life, another situation COULD very well happen, and she needs to be more careful...

    *sigh*

Uhh, sounds like NCIS is a big thing with her. Shock I have to say, even as a kid I was never that vested with tv programming. Of course, what the hell was on when I was young, The Brady Bunch? Belly laugh

Don't know Haven but Psych is a LOT of fun and one of my favorites. Okay The camaraderie between Shawn and Gus is too funny and the show doesn't take itself seriously. At all!

That's what made the commercials interesting to me (the joking and fun they have.)  I'll have to check it out, thanks!

NCIS and The Big Bang Theory are her shows, she loves them.  She IS 19 years old, but with her autism, sometimes it's hard to tell Wink

Haven is a good show,  but I must warn you that if you watch it starting this season,  story wise  you might be lost.
Nice that a new season is getting started soon  with all our shows.
Looking forward to a new season of Grimm   Happy bounce
I mentioned earlier I am a Rizzoli and Isles fan.   I was  saddened at the real death of
Lee Thompson, who played Det. Frost.
There is also Once Upon a Time.  Has anyone else watched that one last season?

I am also looking forward  to watching  The Blacklist  with James Spader.

Luvtoread - that was so tragic about his death.  I could hardly watch the last couple of episodes with him looking so happy.

Anyone watching the new shows tonight - Hostages or Blacklist? I plan to record them as I have to watch the football game.  They look good.

Genki - I remember when she had that breakdown over Ducky.  We were desperately trying to find out if he lived.  It is a good learning experience for her but really hard on you I know.  It's interesting what appeals to her.  Same with my sister - always trying to figure out the whys.

My first reaction was Oh No!
    Spoiler:
       then a laugh.
W/O giving it all away,  lets just say it involves Ducky and  "Who needs Security?"  Happy bounce

Oh  and check out Tony's  goldfish name.

Twists and turns,  but nothing so far to upset your daughter...at least not that I have seen.
But she thinks differently from me,  so hopefully I am right.

Ziva  (Cote DiPablo)  is not in this one.
